Hi, I’m Kathleen, the Senior Manager, People Operations here at Venture for Canada (VFC). I’ll be leading the recruitment for this new opening. At VFC, the Digital Marketing & Community Lead plays a key role in bringing our mission to life online. You’ll craft stories that celebrate entrepreneurship, spark conversations that build community, and use data-driven insights to grow our digital impact. From social campaigns to creative content, you’ll help shape how Canadians experience VFC’s brand and purpose across every platform. This is a role for a creative connector, someone who thrives at the intersection of marketing, community, and social change.

Please note that the Digital Marketing & Community Lead is a fixed-term contract role to support Venture for Canada with parental leave coverage from late 2025 to late 2026.

Role Responsibilities

Social Media Management & Community Building

  • Develop a deep understanding of VFC’s diverse audiences, including students, startups, alumni, supporters, ecosystem partners, and post-secondary institutions.
  • Plan, execute, and optimize a dynamic social media calendar to maintain a consistent and engaging presence across all platforms.
  • Build authentic relationships and cultivate a vibrant online community through thoughtful storytelling and engagement.
  • Monitor and moderate social media channels including responding to comments, messages, and mentions in a timely and professional way.
  • Collaborate with program teams to highlight participant stories, alumni impact, and organizational milestones.
  • Stay on top of emerging trends and platform updates to keep our digital strategy innovative and relevant.

Content Creation

  • Use the 4 Es of Marketing (Educate, Engage, Entertain, Empower) to design diverse, high-quality content across social media accounts and our blog.
  • Write compelling copy and creative briefs that align with VFC’s voice, mission, and values.
  • Plan, schedule, and publish posts strategically to maximize reach, engagement, and conversion.
  • Develop multimedia content including short videos, graphics, and blog features in collaboration with internal and external creators
  • Support with website and blog updates
  • Ensure all digital content is accessible, inclusive, and aligned with brand standards.

Data Analysis & Optimization

  • Track and analyze performance metrics including reach, engagement, click-through, and conversion rates.
  • Provide regular reports with insights, learnings, and recommendations to improve content and campaign effectiveness.
  • Use data to test and refine strategies from post timing to messaging tone to continually improve audience engagement.
  • Stay aware of digital benchmarks and competitor trends to identify new opportunities for growth.

Job Requirements:

  • 2–4 years of experience in social media management, content creation, or digital marketing (nonprofit or education sector experience is a plus).
  • Strong writing, editing, and visual communication skills.
  • Proficiency with major social platforms and analytics tools (e.g., Meta Insights, Google Analytics, Hootsuite, or Sprout Social).
  • Experience with Hubspot and Wordpress is a plus
  • A keen eye for emerging trends and creative opportunities in digital spaces.
  • Collaborative, curious, and mission-driven mindset - you thrive in community-centered work.
  • Passionate about entrepreneurship, education, and social impact; experience in nonprofits or small, scaling organizations is an asset;
  • Education in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field is an asset
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace/Gmail, HubSpot, Slack, Zoom, and the Windows operating system are assets
  • Fluency in French is considered an asset
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
