The Director of Finance will play a critical role in three of these exciting companies spanning space/defence, biotech, and enterprise SaaS, in a fractional capacity for each. This role will require "boots on the ground", often working in direct contact with our research and development teams. Finding unique opportunities from growth, sales and financing to mergers and acquisitions, accounting, and overall strategy will be critical. This role requires someone with vision, leadership, and a relentless work ethic that goes far beyond the norm. All three companies are committed to extremely rapid innovation and development of only the most ambitious aerospace, software, and genetics projects with only the most ambitious team Canada has to offer.

Genepika (https://genepika.com) is dedicated to advancing genetics-related research, engineering, and product development leveraging its core technology in DNA-based molecules called aptamers applied to defence, diagnostic, therapeutic, robotic, and cosmetic applications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop financial strategies to support high-growth and R&D investments
  • Lead fundraising efforts, securing venture capital, grants, or debt financing
  • Manage cash flow and liquidity to ensure operational runway
  • Prepare accurate financial statements and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Evaluate and allocate budgets for key projects, ensuring financial discipline
  • Mitigate financial risks related to R&D uncertainty and market volatility
  • Build and mentor a junior finance team to support a high-growth environment, assist where necessary with general accounting and operations
  • Provide financial insights for R&D prioritization, commercialization, and M&A opportunities
  • Conduct due diligence and financial analysis for potential mergers and acquisitions
  • Implement financial systems and analytics to streamline reporting and scalability

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field; MBA or CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive finance experience, ideally in high-growth R&D industries
  • Proven track record in fundraising, including venture capital and grant acquisition
  • Expertise in financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting for R&D-intensive businesses
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS, tax regulations, and R&D tax incentives
  • Experience conducting due diligence and financial analysis for mergers and acquisitions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cash flow and liquidity in high-burn environments
  • Leadership experience building and mentoring finance teams in dynamic settings
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, FP&A tools, and financial analytics platforms
  • Excellent communication skills to present complex financial data to diverse stakeholders
