Job Description:
Are you passionate about pushing the boundaries of technology and solving real-world problems? IMAX is seeking a talented R&D Technologist to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our Research and Development department, you will leverage your expertise in optical engineering, photonics, or engineering physics to investigate and address reliability issues in our cutting-edge projection systems. This role offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with diverse teams and contribute to groundbreaking advancements in cinema technology. This is a 12 months contract role.
What You'll Do
Investigate root cause analysis on field failures and report results to senior stakeholders.
Design and carry out experiments to prove/disprove theories related to the source of field failures.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers to understand the variety of contamination sources that could be present in a theater booth environment.
Develop analytical tools and insights on data from deployed systems.
Measure component and system level performance against design metrics.
Investigate new technologies related to IMAX projection systems.
Assume a supporting role in defining new R&D projects.
Author technical documentation and present results to management periodically.
Author technical documentation used as inputs for the install, manufacturing and service teams’ manuals and instructions periodically.
Travel occasionally on site for troubleshooting, diagnostics and field testing.
What You'll Need
5+ years of experience in a real-world R&D, product development or quality assurance environment.
Strong technical background with excellent analytical skills and the ability to identify root cause failures in manufactured products used in clean environments.
Excellent “hands-on” laboratory skills and capability of using a wide variety of equipment.
Strong attention to detail in conducting experiments and recording data
Good breadth of knowledge including mechanical, thermal, and electrical engineering.
Good understanding of quality management processes.
Capability to work effectively within a diverse team of multidisciplinary engineers
Ability to document findings clearly, write reports, and present results to stakeholders.
Experience with scientific analysis programming environments (ie, matlab and python) is a plus
Understanding of colour science and display calibration is a plus.
A PEng designation is a plus.
