Job Description:

About the Role

IMAX is excited to be looking for a Director, Finance to join our growing team. A new role at the company, you’ll report directly into the SVP, Finance & Controller to oversee a team and three functional areas at IMAX, including Corporate Accounting, Payroll, and Inventory. We’re looking for someone with strong leadership skills with the desire to stay hands-on to be both a coach and mentor for your team. You’ll also focus on process improvement and have an ability to enact change across the larger Finance group.

What You’ll Do:

  • On the Corporate Accounting side, responsible for the financial accounting and analysis related to joint revenue sharing arrangements, theatre maintenance revenue recognition, fixed and intangible assets, financing receivables, current expected credit losses, and leases

  • On the Payroll side, responsible for the financial accounting and analysis related to payroll and benefit transactions, as well as the Company’s sales commission programs

  • On the Inventory side, responsible for the financial accounting and analysis related to theatre system inventory transactions and theatre maintenance services, working closely with Supply Chain Management and Global Theatre Services

  • Oversee the design and execution of the monthly financial close process in partnership with the Director of Financial Reporting with the goal of ensuring a timely and well-controlled process.

  • In consultation with the Director of Internal Audit, ensure the effective design and operation of internal controls over financial reporting for all functional areas within the Assistant Controller’s organization

  • Collaborate with operational business leaders to anticipate and implement new accounting controls and processes in response to business developments

  • Coordinate external and internal audit requests for all functional areas within the organization

  • Work closely with the Vice President, Finance of IMAX China, a majority-owned Hong Kong publicly traded company, to standardize and harmonize accounting controls and processes

What You’ll Need:

  • CPA with 7+ years’ of progressive accounting experience, including a mix of audit experience, preferably at a Big Four firm, and hands-on industry experience at a global publicly traded company

  • Strong technical skills in U.S. GAAP and familiarity with IFRS

  • Mindset of continuous incremental improvement in the areas of internal controls and related processes, including a focus on identifying opportunities for automation.

  • Confident and experienced leader of people who values cross-functional collaboration and is focused on the development of staff through mentorship and teaching.

  • Advanced Excel skills and hands-on experience with SAP
