Job Description:

The Manager, Electrical Engineering plays a pivotal role within IMAX's product development team, leading the Electrical Design department both technically and professionally. This individual is responsible for ensuring that IMAX's electrical and electronics components meet the highest quality standards expected of the IMAX brand. The role encompasses both managerial responsibilities and hands-on design duties.

What You'll Do:

  • Leading a team of Electrical Engineers and Designers; assigning activities and providing engineering guidance and professional mentoring

  • Hands on design (schematics + layout) and testing of electronics boards used in new and future IMAX products

  • Cross functional collaboration with other major disciplines in the engineering department (Optical, Mechanical, Software) to ensure system architectures are robust and interface points are well documented and understood

  • Support IMAX's global rollout of products by ensuring regulatory testing of systems and field replaceable units (FRUs) obtain the necessary certifications

  • Participate in headcount planning, budget, and product roadmap discussions with engineering leadership

  • Take ownership and ensure adequate resourcing of sustaining engineering activities related to IMAX products

  • Evaluating engineering resource usage and progress of activities

  • Take ownership of the electrical product development process and related activities, suggesting improvements where appropriate

  • Collaborate with vendors to ensure that components are manufactured as designed according to IMAX specifications and quality standards

  • Create, approve, revise, and maintain design documentation

  • Draft specifications and participate in design reviews as part of IMAX’s NPD process

  • Develop and recommend alternative design approaches to keep IMAX at the forefront of cinema technology.

  • Provide electrical engineering support to the Procurement, Quality, Manufacturing, Installation and Technical Services groups.

What You'll Need:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering leadership position or equivalent.

  • Experience in evaluating and managing the performance of engineers at all levels.

  • 7-10 years of hands-on experience in electrical design.

  • Experience managing products through regulatory certification processes for a global product line.

  • 5+ years of design experience using Altium or equivalent.

  • Experience with image/video processing pipelines using FPGA or GPU-based manipulation is highly desired.

  • Experience with HDMI broadcast and transmission standards is highly desired.

  • Experience with Silicon Expert is highly desired.

  • Experience with video compression and processing (h.264, h.265, jpeg200) is a plus.

  • Experience working with high-power laser systems is a plus.

  • Experience with thermal design considerations and simulations (heat transfer & airflow) is a plus.

  • Experience with opto-mechanical design and embedded software is a plus.

  • Ability to formally document electrical product requirements, designs, and implementations.

  • Experience following a formal design/development process.

  • Excellent time management and multitasking skills are mandatory.

  • Ability to work effectively with a multi-disciplinary design team consisting of mechanical, optical, and software professionals.

  • PEng designation is highly desired.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
