The Business Development Representative is responsible for driving growth and shaping the strategic direction of Calian Health’s digitally enabled Patient Support Program (PSP) portfolio within the Canadian specialty pharmaceutical market.
This role requires both strong commercial acumen and deep, hands-on PSP operational expertise. The successful candidate will bring practical experience in PSP delivery environments and be able to confidently represent operational workflows, service models, and execution capabilities in strategic client discussions.
The role focuses on identifying new commercial opportunities, building and managing senior-level pharmaceutical relationships, and positioning Calian as a trusted partner for innovative, technology-enabled PSP solutions that improve patient access and outcomes. A strong understanding of PSP operations, cross-functional coordination, and program execution is essential to support both internal delivery alignment and credible external engagement.
Responsibilities
Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities with pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturers to grow the PSP portfolio.
Develop, lead, and execute strategic account and partnership plans across pharmaceutical stakeholders, including Market Access, Patient Services, Commercial, Medical Affairs, and Finance.
Lead complex sales cycles and RFP processes, managing opportunities from early identification through proposal development, pricing strategy, negotiation, and contract execution.
Develop, contribute to, and in many cases lead PSP RFP responses, ensuring operational feasibility, financial alignment, and differentiation through digitally enabled solutions.
Develop and negotiate PSP contracts and related agreements in collaboration with legal, privacy, security, finance, operations, and delivery teams.
Apply deep operational knowledge of PSP workflows, patient journeys, reimbursement navigation, adherence programs, and service coordination to design tailored, execution-ready solutions.
Build and maintain strong relationships with pharmaceutical partners, healthcare providers, community pharmacies, patient advocacy groups, and complementary service providers.
Prepare compelling, data-driven proposals that articulate differentiated value through innovative and digitally enabled PSP models.
Leverage CRM platforms and AI-enabled sales tools to support prospecting, engagement, pipeline management, forecasting, and performance tracking.
Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, reimbursement dynamics, and changes within the specialty pharmaceutical landscape to identify emerging growth opportunities.
Collaborate cross-functionally with program management, operations, nursing, reimbursement, IT, privacy, and finance teams to ensure alignment and successful PSP execution.
Represent Calian credibly in senior-level conversations, demonstrating a strong grasp of both commercial strategy and PSP operational realities.
Perform other duties as required within the scope of the role.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience within the Canadian pharmaceutical industry and/or patient support programs, with demonstrated exposure to PSP environments.
Strong preference for candidates with direct PSP operational experience at the Program Manager level or above within a current PSP delivery organization.
Demonstrated experience with PSP contract development, RFP leadership or significant RFP contribution, and complex multi-stakeholder negotiations, including value-based and outcome-driven pricing models.
Deep understanding of PSP operations, including workflows, cross-functional coordination, reimbursement navigation, and patient journey design.
Strong understanding of the specialty pharmaceutical landscape, healthcare reimbursement environment, and pharmaceutical customer challenges in Canada.
Proven ability to design tailored PSP solutions that address diverse patient journeys and deliver a clear, measurable value proposition.
Excellent relationship-building, communication, and executive-level stakeholder engagement skills.
Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to use data and operational insights to inform strategic decisions.
Proficiency with CRM platforms and modern digital or AI-enabled sales tools.
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, life sciences, or a related field.

Fluency in English is required; French proficiency is considered an asset.

Compensation
$115,000-$135,000 and includes a commission plan as part of the overall compensation package.
