Creative Destruction Lab (“CDL”), originated at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, is one of the world’s premier seed stage programs for massively scalable science-based ventures. The program has created more than $35 billion in equity in less than twelve years targeting companies that have the potential to transform our social, industrial, and economic landscape.

The Venture Analyst position will primarily support CDL-Toronto’s 2024/25 program delivery, developing venture briefing materials for CDL stakeholders, and supporting the operations team with session preparation and execution. The Venture Analyst may also be assigned special projects by the CDL-Toronto team.

Status:

Contract from October 7, 2024 – February 28, 2025

Timing:

Monday to Friday, target in the office between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, up to 36.5 hours per week.

Reports to:

Managing Director, CDL-Toronto

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and support workflows to ensure completeness of recruitment, evaluation, and selection-related data being logged by all active recruiters in the CDL customer relationship management (CRM) system (Salesforce).
  • Support the CDL-Toronto Team on high priority special projects including current cohort operations, new stream development, and session preparation and execution.
  • Produces venture briefing materials for each assigned venture, uploading them to appropriate platforms, including Salesforce and Slack, and conducting quality assurance on materials produced.
  • Supports CDL-Toronto Venture Team in managing ventures who are navigating the various steps and requirements necessary to be successful in the program.
  • Support, coordinate, and produce materials for key internal coordination meetings, including weekly team meetings.
  • Develop and execute a strategy to identify and recruit high-quality CDL applicants focused on targeted technologies and/or domains associated with CDL-Toronto streams.
  • Produce briefings on priority topics assigned by the CDL-Toronto Team, including those related to venture and mentor recruitment and stream theses.
  • Supports CDL administrative functions as required.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelors’ Degree, STEM degree, or technology background preferred
  • Master of Business Administration or BCom degree in progress or completed an asset
  • Strong analytical ability and understanding of business models and drivers of success in startups across several verticals
  • Entrepreneurial and highly self-motivated with a strong interest in startups. Existing knowledge of startup ecosystems and experience evaluating startups is beneficial.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good at building relationships and setting expectations.
  • High competence in the use of spreadsheets and above-average ability to use or learn to use technology tools such as customer relationship management systems, marketing automation platforms, etc.,
  • Strong, team-oriented work ethic with a willingness to work independently and autonomously
  • Highly organized with strong project management experience an asset
