Summary:

We are currently seeking a new Legal Content Rules Specialist to join our CalendarRules team. This role is available to candidates across Canada (excluding Quebec) and the United States (some exceptions may apply).

What your team does:

CalendarRules helps legal professionals stay on top of critical deadlines while navigating increasingly complex court rules and systems. Acquired by Clio in 2021, CalendarRules offers a legal calendaring database that thousands of active subscribers use to run millions of date calculations each month. Our automated deadlines help our users save time and reduce errors, providing legal technology that law firms rely on to run efficient and seamless practices in the best interests of their clients. CalendarRules currently provides rule sets for state and federal courts in the United States and Canada. We regularly build new rule sets and our team is growing.

What you’ll work on:

  • Rule Set Building: build basic rule sets by researching and analyzing applicable state, federal, and/or agency codes, rules, and standing orders and drafting clear and concise triggers and deadlines, while ensuring that applicable service, time computation, and holiday rules are taken into account and that deadlines are calculated correctly.

  • Rule Set Updates: apply applicable rule amendments to relevant rule sets and draft amendment notes for customers.

  • Rule Set Monitoring: utilize outside software platforms to monitor and track websites for rules amendments.

  • Rule Set Updates: apply applicable rule amendments to relevant rule sets and draft amendment notes for customers.

  • Research/Administrative Support: conduct legal research for court building, including contacting courts to resolve conflicts regarding rule amendments.

  • Customer Support/Rules Team: provide users with support concerning procedural questions and calculations of deadlines based on rules/statutes and help customers become familiar with legal calendaring software in general.

  • Training Materials: draft, maintain, and update internal and external training materials and resources for team members and customers.

  • Training Support: assist with training (colleagues, customers, partners) via email, Slack, Zoom meetings, webinars, phone conferences, or other means as needed.

  • Customer Support/Operations: conduct legal research to assist in responding to new rule set quotes and requests, respond to customer questions related to the content of a rule set, and add/manage subscriptions.

  • Customer Journey/General: support the CalendarRules customer journey in general, including qualification, account setup, onboarding, billing, and support.

What you bring:

  • 3+ years experience with automated legal calendaring, either as a paralegal or docketing specialist in a law firm, or with a company that offers legal calendaring software

  • Knowledge of how to find and calculate legal deadlines

  • Familiarity with the U.S. legal system

  • The ability to work autonomously and efficiently to complete assignments in a timely manner without sacrificing accuracy

  • A flexible mindset to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands

  • Excellent writing and editing skills

  • Strong communication skills that foster positive interactions with a variety of legal professionals, including attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, docketing specialists, and court clerks

  • The ability to prioritize, multi-task and perform optimally in ever-changing environments

  • Capacity to learn and use software necessary to build the CalendarRules database

  • A team player attitude and an adaptable mindset open to both receiving and delivering feedback

  • Availability during the last two weeks of June and December of each year during the busiest update "seasons"

Serious bonus points if you have:

  • Experience calendaring probate, family law, bankruptcy, criminal, or intellectual property matters

  • Legal experience in a state other than California if you're in the U.S.

The expected salary range* for this role is $78,600 to $106,400 USD. Please note there are a separate set of salary bands for other regions based on local currency.

*Our salary bands are designed to reflect the range of skills and experience needed for the position and to allow room for growth at Clio. For experienced individuals, we typically hire at or around the midpoint of the band. The top portion of the salary band is reserved for employees who demonstrate sustained high performance and impact at Clio. Those who are new to the role may join below the midpoint and develop their skills over time. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on geographical region, applicable experience, and skillset of the candidate.
