CheckingIn
Looking for a Marketing Consultant (Short-Term Engagement)
Who are we? CheckingIn is a wellness and reconnection tool for Indigenous communities. We operate in a finite, relationship-based market. Our work is alongside First Nations communities, beginning with a focus in British Columbia. Success in our work is not driven by volume, aggressive funnels, or rapid scaling, but by trust, care, and long-term relationships built in the right way.
Experience working with First Nations, Indigenous organizations, non-profits, public sector, or similarly trust-based environments is strongly preferred.
Job Description:
We are seeking a senior Marketing Consultant to support our team in strengthening our marketing foundations, systems, and overall strategic direction. This is a short-term, strategic engagement focused on leadership, clarity, and alignment — not hands-on execution. You will work closely with leadership to help us refine how we approach marketing in a way that is sustainable, values-aligned, and appropriate for the communities we serve.
This role is ideal for someone who has stepped beyond “growth at all costs” thinking and understands how to market thoughtfully in small, relationship-led ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and advise on overall marketing strategy and direction
Assess and refine existing marketing systems, tools, and workflows
Help define what “success” looks like in a relationship-led market
Support the team in prioritizing efforts that are realistic, ethical, and scalable
Provide guidance on messaging, positioning, and audience clarity
Ensure marketing approaches align with company values, community trust, and long-term sustainability
Act as a thought partner to leadership, offering clear, grounded recommendations
Key Deliverables
Deliverables will be confirmed collaboratively but may include:
A refined marketing strategy and framework aligned with our market realities
Clear recommendations for systems, tools, and processes
Defined marketing priorities and focus areas for the next 6–12 months
Guidance on measurement and success indicators appropriate to our work
Documentation or summaries that support internal alignment and continuity
Experience We’re Looking For
Has senior-level marketing experience, ideally in tech or startup environments
Understands how to build practical marketing foundations, not just theories
Is comfortable advising small, fast-moving teams
Has experience working in relationship-led, trust-based sectors
Brings a calm, thoughtful, and collaborative approach
Understands the nuances of marketing where reputation and relationships matter deeply
Is aligned with values-driven work and community accountability
Why This Role Matters
This role will help ensure that how we market reflects who we are, who we serve, and how we want to show up in the world. We are looking for someone who can help us do this work with care, clarity, and integrity.
In your cover letter, please specify why your passion lies in working with Indigenous Communities.
The work we are doing is heart work. We want employees to be capable of the work asked of them, but at the core they need to be mentally and spiritually connected to the project. A positive attitude and a passion for the work can go very far at CheckingIn.
CheckingIn is an equal opportunity employer and we encourage candidates of all backgrounds to apply.
This posting will remain open until filled.
If you’re an experienced marketing consultant available short-term — or know someone who would be a great fit — we’d love to connect.
Please Note: We are unable to offer LMIA or sponsorship for this position. Applicants should be Canadian citizens, Permanent Residents of Canada, or already possess a valid work permit for Canada.
