Founded in 2010, Ascend Fundraising Solutions online and in-venue fundraising platform and solutions have been used by some of the world’s most notable non-profit organizations such as United Way, Vancouver Canucks foundation, Canadian Olympic Foundation, Canadian Institute for the Blind, Kansas City Chiefs foundation, Boston Red Sox foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Foundation, Arizona Humane Society and many others.

We are disrupting the fundraising model by helping charitable organizations, raise funds by using our electronic raffle solutions, raise recurring donations, build on their donor datasets, build deeper engagement from their donor databases, and achieve record donor revenues.

As a leading provide of strategy and technology for 50/50 raffles, sweepstakes, and Catch the Ace raffles, we’ve helped over 500 charitable organizations raise over $1 Billion on our platform to date, and we’re only just getting started.

Reporting to the General Counsel (GC), the Fractional In-House Counsel is integral in supporting senior management and business stakeholders. This part-time, contractor role offers strategic legal support, catered to our industry's unique needs, ensuring operations are compliant with legal standards and company policies. The position features flexible working hours and the option for remote work.

Responsibilities

Commercial Agreements and Legal Support:

• Assist the General Counsel in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a variety of contracts, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements and company policies.

• Collaborate with account and sales teams for the efficient execution of agreements.

• Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks in contractual proposals.

• Support the GC in the adoption of contract lifecycle management software to optimize the contract process.

Regulatory Compliance and Legal Training:

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, aiding the GC in compliance strategies.

• Develop and provide legal training to employees as needed, promoting a culture of legal awareness and compliance.

Business Support:

• Provide accurate, timely legal advice to the GC and senior management on a range of matters, including contracts and regulatory issues.

• Contribute to various business projects as needed, supporting organizational objectives.

Your Experience & Skills:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

• License to practice law in any Canadian jurisdiction.

• At least 3 years of experience in law, with a focus on corporate and commercial matters.

• Strong knowledge of contract law, corporate law, and regulatory compliance. Experience or an interest in privacy law is a bonus.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, confident in interactions across all organizational levels.

• Self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

• Previous in-house experience or legal service provision to businesses will be considered an asset.
