About the role
As the Trading and Operations Associate for Self Directed Investing, you will work directly with the Trading team to support, assist and monitor trading operations. You will be responsible for ensuring that day to day operations of trading run smoothly and to ensure an exceptional client experience as we grow. You will be tasked with automating manual operational processes, writing queries to gather business intelligence and supporting the trade desk in various front and back end projects. This is an exciting opportunity to meaningfully contribute to a dynamic company with the momentum of a successful team and product behind you. The role will initially roll up to the Head of DMA Trading as an operations and technical function, with the long term goal of transitioning to the Trade Desk.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Lead the day-to-day effort across Trading operations on the SDI trade desk to measure, track and improve SDI trading workflow and associated operations.
- Lead post incident remediation in conjunction with CS Registered and Core Operations.
- Manage and execute (once registered) inventory for assets impacting SDI trading, including equities, options and crypto.
- Execute daily operational tasks for Self Directed Investing and collaborate with cross-functional partners across Wealthsimple.
- Troubleshoot, identify root causes and resolve issues.
- Create new and optimize existing business processes to improve our productivity and efficiency, reduce errors and transactional cost for trading processes.
- Implement and monitor metrics for critical operational processes and trading operations.
- Partner cross-functionally with the larger WS Core operations team, data science and engineering to continuously improve all upstream and downstream processes; for example, partner with the Operations and Compliance Teams on reconciliation across products and to develop and execute policies and procedures.
Skills we're looking for:
- Strong analytical skills and problem solving; a believer in knowing and understanding the numbers behind a problem.
- Strong experience in SQL and Excel, algorithmic outputs and data.
- Experience with delivery and leading by example; willingness to take initiative to deliver and improve on our operations.
- Attention to detail and critical thinking.
- Process orientation and initiative; a self-starter who is confident is building out processes both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong communication; ability to convey complex ideas simply and succinctly while considering the audience.
- Understanding and empathetic to the challenges of scaling a business, but excited to tackle them.
- Willingness to assist where needed outside of day-to-day responsibilities and finds satisfaction in solving complex problems.
- An understanding of equity, options and crypto markets.
- CIRO registration an asset.
