The Field Service Technician provides on-site and remote technical support to customers, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and application issues, as well as delivering installation and training services.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation, Maintenance & Repair
- Perform installation, service, repair, and hardware integration at customer sites in a timely manner
- Conduct on-site installation of complex products and execute testing procedures to ensure proper operation
- Perform hardware and software upgrades and ensure system functionality
Equipment Validation & Quality Assurance
- Check and approve operational quality of products
- Identify equipment start-up malfunctions and take corrective action
Customer Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide remote technical and application support to customers and service technicians via phone and remote sessions
- Perform both complex and basic on-site customer support activities, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and applications
- Answer complex technical questions and work directly with customers to resolve equipment-related issues
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with in-house technical support and manufacturing teams to resolve issues and implement corrective actions
- Provide recommendations for design improvements based on field observations
Training & Knowledge Development
- Provide installation support and training to customers and other field service engineers
- Attend required training to maintain up-to-date knowledge, including ongoing Spectro hardware and software training (local and international)
Travel & Field Coverage
- Travel extensively (minimum 90%) across the United States, Monday through Friday, via plane, automobile, or other transportation methods
- Perform occasional international travel, as well as weekend and holiday work when required
Reporting & Administration
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely service and expense reports
Requirements:
Education & Experience
- 5–7 years of hands-on field service experience or maintenance, repair, and service of analytical instrumentation
- Associate’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
Technical Expertise
- Strong background in chemistry
- High level of competency in control system electronics and high-voltage power supplies
- Understanding of vacuum systems, metallurgy, physics, and chemistry (preferred)
- Minimum 2 years of experience with analytical instrumentation, specifically Arc/Spark OES
- Competency in the use of basic hand tools
- Above-average computer skills, including MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and similar software)
Other Requirements
- Ability to travel extensively within the U.S. with occasional international travel
- Must be located within 1 hour of a major Ohio airport
Working Environment:
- Field-based role with extensive travel (minimum 90%)
- Work performed at customer sites, as well as through remote and phone support
- Occasional weekend and holiday work required
