The Field Service Technician provides on-site and remote support to customers, troubleshooting hardware, software, and application issues, while performing installations, repairs, and training on analytical instrumentation.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Support & Service
- Provide on-site, remote, and phone-based technical and application support
- Troubleshoot complex equipment issues and answer technical questions
- Perform installation, service, repair, upgrades, and training at customer sites
- Ensure timely resolution of customer issues and maintain operational quality
Installation & Commissioning
- Install complex instruments and execute testing procedures
- Verify product performance and approve operational readiness
- Identify start-up malfunctions and implement corrective actions
Technical Collaboration
- Work closely with in-house Technical Support and Manufacturing teams to resolve issues
- Provide feedback and recommend design improvements
- Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge through ongoing training (local and international)
Reporting & Administration
- Prepare and submit service and expense reports accurately and on time
Travel
- Travel extensively (minimum 90%) across the U.S. (Monday–Friday) via plane or car
- Occasional international travel and weekend/holiday work
Requirements for Consideration
Education & Experience
- Associate’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
- 5–7 years of hands-on field service or maintenance/repair experience
- Minimum 2 years of Arc/Spark OES analytical instrumentation experience
- Strong chemistry background
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of control system electronics and high-voltage power supplies
- Understanding of analytical instrumentation operation
- Knowledge of vacuum systems, metallurgy, physics, and chemistry (preferred)
- Proficiency with basic hand tools
- Strong computer skills, including MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.
Other Requirements
- Ability to travel extensively within the U.S. (90%+) with occasional international travel
- Must be located within 1 hour of Salt Lake City, Utah
