The incumbent will directly support student-led early-stage, science-based startups operating out of the Science Innovation Hub for Velocity. The Senior Manager, Velocity Science has 5 primary sets of responsibility: (1) work closely with student teams in the Science Innovation Hub helping them with research support and connections to internal and external resources; (2) establish and maintain an inclusive, curious and entrepreneurial culture in the lab; (3) create and maintain a network of relationships on campus with different faculty and labs that may help student teams; (4) provide early-stage entrepreneurship support for students seeking to commercialize their ideas in collaboration with other Velocity team members; and (5) communicate effectively with the Velocity Laboratory Technician to maintain a safe and active lab that is resourced appropriately for resident teams. The Senior Manager will also provide some in-lab support to iGEM teams operating out of the Science Innovation Hub.

The successful candidate will create an active and engaging environment where students feel empowered to build out their ideas in a safe and inclusive lab space. The Science Innovation Hub should house more than a lab but a community where students meet other founders, are inspired to start business and learn how to do proper research and early product development. The Senior Manager must take an active interest in all student projects and help guide them to resources and support on campus and beyond that they would not otherwise find.
