Health AI Intern

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Health AI Intern will have the opportunity to gain real-world experience managing health AI projects at a leading institute, with a focus on driving applications of AI and ML with partner organizations. Reporting to the Manager, Health AI Implementation, you will provide project design and delivery support and play a key role in ensuring the goals of the Health team are met.

APPLIED INTERNSHIPS AT VECTOR

The applied internship program at Vector provides relevant, hands-on learning and work experience in machine learning and AI. During the paid internship, interns will have the opportunity to attend research, recruitment, and commercialization talks at Vector and connect with key stakeholders in the AI ecosystem. Applied internships may be full-time (36.25 hours per week) or part-time (20 hours per week) over the Summer academic term (May 4 - August 28, 2026) with an opportunity to continue over the Fall 2026 academic term. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates. Consistent with Vector’s goals in this program to relieve disadvantages and alleviate the under-representation of Black and Indigenous people in AI, and to attempt to achieve equal opportunity in the field of AI, preference in hiring will be given to qualified Black and Indigenous persons, studying at or having recently graduated from a Canadian post-secondary institute, who self-identify as such in the application process. This initiative is designed to meet the criteria of a special program under the Ontario Human Rights Code.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the development and management of Health Projects, creating and updating project plans, schedules, status reports, and other project deliverables (e.g., business cases, executive roadmaps, etc.);

  • Assist in the development of metrics and frameworks for evaluating the impact of health-related AI projects;

  • Support partnership building with health sector organizations and researchers;

  • Draft grant proposals on health-related projects;

  • Support project meeting coordination functions such as booking meetings with partners and stakeholders, preparing meeting materials (e.g., slides, briefing notes), taking minutes, tracking action items, and following up with meeting participants;

  • Support the creation of knowledge translation tools, including infographics, briefs, and training materials, to facilitate AI adoption;

  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis and evaluation; and,

  • Other duties as assigned.

PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • You are a self-identified Black or Indigenous student or postdoctoral fellow (Indigenous ancestry or heritage – First Nations (status or non-status), Métis or Inuit) or a recent graduate.

  • You are in the second year or higher, studying at a Canadian university or college, or a recent graduate within 1 semester of graduation.

  • You have experience in project management (scoping, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluating and closing) and using project management tools.

  • You are familiar with GSuite and/or MS Office 365 applications.

  • You are organized and efficient with strong problem-solving skills.

  • You possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

  • You possess a positive attitude, integrity, a sense of humour, and bring a positive energy and outlook to a not-for-profit corporate culture.

  • You understand the unique requirements and considerations associated with health data (e.g., security and privacy considerations, requirements for access to health data for ML research, challenges associated with unstructured or unlabelled data).

  • You are motivated to apply machine learning techniques to real-world health problems.

  • You are motivated by continuous learning and desire to make a difference and a real contribution to health AI.

  • You are creative and enjoy collaborating within a small entrepreneurial environment that is results-driven.

  • You stay informed on emerging trends in AI and health.


COMPENSATION: $25/hour.
