Part of Data Strategy department, the Manager, Data Engineering and Systems is a key role in Varicent’s digital evolution. The role requires leading and overseeing a global team of data engineering and systems professionals to design, develop and implement data pipelines, data integration, data storage solutions (data warehouses, lakes, relational and non-relational databases), data enrichment as well as managing and upgrading the experience of business users inside Company’s internal applications and systems.
The position will partner closely with Enterprise Program Management, Business Intelligence, Data Governance and Data Analytics teams to enable data-driven decision-making, automation and optimization and solve business-significant data challenges. This role will drive the enablement of future state data capabilities in support of the enterprise's data and digital strategy.
What you will do:
- Leads and manages global team to accomplish objectives through effective recruitment & selection, training & development, performance management and rewards & recognition.
- Manage team priorities including working directly with Program Managers and Scrum Masters to ensure on-time and on-budget project delivery
- Acts as a thought leader on data solutions and systems design, and may be required to support in coding.
- Analyze and evaluate the requirements for existing or new IT applications, focusing on systems integrations capabilities and effort in managing data pipelines
- Coordinates the team to develop, design, and create new internal applications or digital products
- Works closely with internal stakeholders, other Operations managers and upper management to identify and maximize opportunities to use technology to improve business processes.
- Architect data modeling solutions to meet the needs of Data Governance and Analytics teams, while defining data management standards and strategies
- Reviews and approves the changes in internal systems that affect internal departments (Customer Success, Sales, Marketing, Finance, etc)
- Continuously reviews the technology needs of supported business functions/processes relative to new technological developments and trends
- Participates, and at times leads vendor/strategic partner evaluations, monitors relationship and supervises renewals.
What you will bring
- 8+ years in “Extract, Transform, Load” (ETL)/ “Extract, Load, Transform” (ELT) hands on experience
- 5+ years in building customer facing tools (applications, reports, automated analysis)
- 2+ years in leading a technical team
- Demonstrated ability of using data to make decisions
- Experience with tracking the execution of internal IT projects
- Programing experience in Python, JavaScript, Shell or other similar scripting languages
- Strong experience with Data modelling for data warehousing & dimensional models
- Experience monitoring and supporting production databases and apps deployed on Cloud infrastructure
- Strong understanding of technologies utilized in the industry and the ability to see their impact as well as enhancement management and product lifecycle development
- Possess knowledge of security practices and systems required to manage sensitive personal data
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively lead and motivate team.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation & consultative skills for effective collaboration with senior management.
