REPORTS TO: ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR-FACILITIES

RATE OF PAY: $22.58-26.42/HOUR

POSITION SUMMARY:

This role is an integral part of service delivery for residents and visitors of Loyalist Township. The purpose of this position is to provide a welcoming, safe, and clean environment for recreation users. The position supports full-time staff in completing general maintenance and cleaning of recreation facilities. This includes assisting with maintaining ice in the arena. The incumbent is required to be able to operate and perform basic maintenance on related equipment safely and competently.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Enrolled in or holds an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent)
  • No previous experience required; however, experience in customer service or in arena and recreation operations is considered an asset.
  • Reliable transportation

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Basic knowledge of maintenance and cleaning techniques.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, considered an asset
  • Ability to perform minor repairs, painting, and other manual labour as required.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including WHMIS.
  • Passionate about providing exceptional customer service experiences.
  • Team oriented with the ability to work both independently and as a member of a high- functioning team.
  • Able to take initiative and complete work in a detail oriented and timely manner.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide a fun and safe environment for patrons.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service.
  • Enforce facility rules and policies in a polite and professional manner.
  • Regular cleaning of washrooms, change rooms, hallways, all of the public spaces and meeting rooms in the WJ Henderson Recreation Centre and other recreation facilities.
  • Having a constant awareness of, and attention to, cleaning needs including litter and recycling collection.
  • In winter, keeping all entrances and exterior walkways free of ice and snow.
  • Cleaning and washing windows and walls throughout the Centre.
  • Providing cleaning of Amherstview Branch Library as directed.
  • Move and peg nets for flooding as required
  • Having an awareness of and practicing all Health and Safety regulations while maintaining up to date knowledge of emergency procedures and assisting as required in emergencies.
  • Assisting users and spectators at recreation facilities, programs and events and at all times providing good public relations and a positive and helpful attitude.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: daily communication with Recreation staff/supervisor, frequent communication with other staff in recreation and parks, occasional communication with other Township employees, human resources.

External: frequent communication with residents, recreation facility users, contractors/vendors

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work Schedule: Primarily evenings and weekends; occasional weekday shifts may be required for events or tournaments.
  • Work Environment: mostly indoors in a cold, damp ice arena environment
  • Physical Requirements: regular standing, walking, and operating cleaning equipment (e.g., floor scrubber), with occasional lifting, climbing, pushing, and pulling tasks.
  • Exposure to Hazards: regular exposure to noise, hazardous cleaning chemicals (with proper PPE), and disagreeable weather conditions.
  • Mental Requirements: constant need for situational awareness when working around the public and operating equipment, as well as frequent visual and auditory attention to surroundings and tasks.
