Role Objectives

The Rotational Shift Building Operator will be responsible for supporting all aspects of data center operations, shift rounds (interior and exterior), critical preventative maintenance and general building maintenance as required.

You will be working in brand new buildings (less than four years old) with some of the latest technologies and equipment within them.


Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of Ontario Building Code an asset
  • High regard for health and safety
  • Must be customer and team oriented, as well as self-motivated and able to work successfully with minimal supervision.
  • Self-starter, with developed analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Monitor the overall building operation via BAS (Building Automation Systems) and ensure all systems are working in proper operation mode.
  • Respond and report (written and verbal) all alarm conditions (BMS / FLS / Security) and take appropriate actions as required.
  • Respond to all alarm conditions and escalate to senior management as per the escalation process.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and regular repairs as assigned with minimum supervision.
  • Perform daily rounds of the building. Complete the round report. Address/Report/Escalate all issues observed during the daily rounds.
  • Continue to learn and understand all critical building systems to be able to respond and take appropriate corrective actions as required during any emergency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WORK HOURS

  • This is a rotation shift position providing 24x7x365 coverage days and nights.
  • The work schedule will be 12-hour shift on a 4 days on/4 days off rotation.
  • Rotation Schedule is posted for the entire calendar year.
  • This role requires flexibility to work holidays and overtime as needed.

Candidate Requirements

  • A high school diploma with completion of a technical training program in maintenance or a recognized apprenticeship program in a maintenance trade.
  • Preference: Licensed Journeyman Electrician, Licensed/Certified Refrigeration and Air Conditioning System Mechanic or Certified Building Operator (or equivalent).
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal

Skills

  • Hands on experience with various meters and test equipment.
  • Understanding of electrical drawings and power distribution systems (MV Switch Gear, Transformers, UPS, ATS, STS, PDU, RPP, Bus distribution, Gen Sets)
  • Understanding of various HVAC technologies and distribution.
  • Knowledge of Fire Monitoring, Suppression, Safety Systems, and general maintenance/testing.
  • Proficient with hand/power tools.
  • Working experience with Building Automation Systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Able to perform manual physical labour tasks as required (Shovel snow, Salt distribution, Filter replacement sweep/mop etc.)
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Attention to details and provide factual descriptions, both verbal and written.
