About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Building Operator to oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of a high-quality, nine-storey commercial office building located at 100 Commerce Valley Drive West in Markham, Ontario. Reporting to the Senior Building Operator, the Building Operator will play a key role in ensuring tenant satisfaction through safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the building’s systems and facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems
• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance of building systems and equipment
• Respond promptly and professionally to tenant service requests and resolve issues effectively
• Monitor building automation systems (BAS) and adjust as required to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency
• Coordinate and supervise third-party contractors and service providers
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, codes, and company policies
• Participate in after-hours on-call rotation and respond to building emergencies as needed
• Assist with seasonal building operations including snow removal and landscaping oversight
• Contribute to sustainability initiatives and energy management strategies

Qualifications:

• 4th Class Power Engineer certification or Building Operator Certification (BOC) preferred
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in commercial building operations or facilities management
• Solid working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and BAS systems
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (TSSA, ESA, OHSA, etc.)
• Proficiency with computer systems and maintenance software (e.g., CMMS)
• Valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable transportation
• 5 days in office, on-site role

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $90,000.00 per year

Experience:

• HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire protection, BAS systems: 5 years (required)
• commercial building operations or facilities management: 5 years (required)
• familiarity with relevant codes and standards: 5 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

• Building Operator Certification (BOC ) (preferred)
• 4th Class Power engineer (preferred)
