The City of Martensville is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada and we have an opening for a temporary full-time Recreation Facility Operator. The duration of the appointment is unknown at this time but could be up to a year.

The Recreation Facility Operator is responsible for the daily maintenance and operations of all City facilities, grounds, parks, playing fields, playgrounds and related equipment.


DUTIESRESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

General DutiesResponsibilities

  • Recreation facility minor repairs and janitorial cleaning
  • Equipment and machinery operation, minor repair and maintenance checks
  • Sports Centre ice installation, maintenance and removal
  • Sports Centre ice plant operating checks and record keeping
  • Sports Centre ice plant equipment maintenance
  • Outdoor rinks ice installation and maintenance
  • Ability to operate basic equipment including Zamboni, tractors under 50hp with attachments and single axel dump truck
  • Grass and turf mowing, watering and fertilizer application
  • Tree and shrub trimming, watering and fertilizer application
  • Irrigation system installation, maintenance and repair
  • Parks and playground equipment construction, maintenance and repair
  • Playing field set-up and maintenance and repair of backstops, dug outs and nets
  • Mosquito control through larviciding and fogging


EDUCATION AND SPECIFIC TRAINING INCLUDE:

Minimum education required:

  • Grade 12 diploma or GED


Minimum experience required:

Level I:

  • Equipment Operation
  • General Labour
  • Construction


Level IIIII
(additional requirements):

  • Municipal Parks and Recreation Work
  • Ice Arena Operation


License and Certifications required:

Level I:

  • Valid Class 5
  • WHMIS
  • CPRStandard First Aid


Level II
(additional requirements):

  • Parks Worker Course
  • Arena Operator II


Level III
(additional requirements):

  • Pool Operator I
  • Landscape Pesticide Certificate

Special Skills or training needed to perform the job:

Level I, IIIII:

  • Basic equipment mechanical knowledge
  • Knowledge of operation and repair of irrigation systems
  • Knowledge of trees, shrubs and turf
  • Carpentry knowledge
  • Knowledge of ice making and ice maintenance
  • Writing and record keeping
  • Basic janitorial knowledge
  • Ability to carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to deal courteously, tactfully and diplomatically with other City employees as well as the public
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and organize and prioritize tasks and duties
  • Ability to supervise and maintain public order in a recreation facility
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions
  • Must complete a Criminal Record Check

Levels IIIII:

Knowledge of ice plant operation and refrigeration systems

    Level III:

    Knowledge of pool operating systems and pool chemistry


      HOURS OF WORKWAGE RATE:

      Hours:

      • This is a temporary in-scope full time hourly position
      • Hours of work are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday (summer months)
      • Evening and weekend work may be required September through March

      Wages:

      • As per the CUPE LOCAL 2582 Collective Agreement - 2025 Rates:
      • Facility Operator I: $25.04
      • Facility Operator II: $27.21
      • Facility Operator III: $29.40
