PERMANENT FULL TIME FACILITIES OPERATIONS MANAGER

KIRKWOOD PLACE - SUDBURY

Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the Manager is responsible for the coordination and leadership of all facility and support services at 680 Kirkwood Drive (NBRHC’s Sudbury Campus). This includes patient food services, security, environmental services, grounds, and facilities maintenance. The primary focus of this role is to plan, develop, and implement operational activities that ensure a safe, efficient, and compliant environment for patients, staff, and visitors. A key aspect of this role is liaising with tenants and assisting the Director of Facilities in managing space license agreements and ensuring that the output specifications of all leasing arrangements are met. The Manager oversees the maintenance and operation of the site’s infrastructure, facilities, and grounds, ensuring adherence to all applicable regulations, codes, and standards. In addition, the Manager provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the successful execution of the Hospital’s annual capital, redevelopment, and other critical infrastructure projects. This includes leading Kirkwood Place’s Facility Operations and Support Services—housekeeping, laundry, food services, and parking—while prioritizing regulatory compliance, safety, and energy efficiency across all areas of responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

  • University degree in facilities management, business administration, healthcare administration, or engineering. A combination of experience and education from an accredited college may be considered.
  • 3-5 years of progressive management experience in facility operations in a healthcare environment.
  • Facility management certification such as CFM, CHFM, CCHFM or FMA is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of hospital building systems and equipment.
  • Extensive project management experience in construction in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience with service level agreements, leaseholder agreements, TSSA, Ontario Building Code and Fire Regulations.
  • Working knowledge of CSA Z8000 Canadian Healthcare standards & CSA Z317 infection control during construction, renovation and maintenance of health care facilities.
  • Knowledge in regulatory requirements, inflectional control, and environmental sustainability practices.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to troubleshoot issues in real time and manage complex operational challenges in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Proven leadership skills, including team building, change management, conflict resolution, communication, and the ability to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in project and process management, continuous quality improvement, performance measurement, and service delivery optimization.
  • Skilled in prioritizing tasks, managing multiple competing priorities, and meeting tight deadlines with a high level of efficiency and organization.
  • Deep understanding of healthcare accreditation standards and experience in coordinating institutional efforts to achieve and maintain compliance with required organizational practices.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to navigate and support a multifaceted healthcare environment.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and ability to read and interpret technical drawings, construction documents, and blueprints.
  • Technical knowledge in building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, building controls, preventative maintenance, Building Automation Systems, and fire alarm systems.
  • Familiar with emergency and life safety systems in support of hospital emergency preparedness and planning.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Operating Engineers Act, Boiler and Pressure Vessels Act, Environmental Protection Act, and Industrial Safety Act to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Knowledge of labour relations, collective agreements, the Employment Standards Act, and other HR-related legislation; skilled in recruitment, retention, staff motivation, and human resource management.
  • Strong operational planning and financial management skills, including experience preparing and managing departmental budgets and multi-year operational plans.
  • Understanding and application of Trauma-Informed Care principles in all professional relationships and interactions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a culture of safety and preventing adverse health events, with a personal dedication to workplace safety and compliance.
  • Excellent attendance and reliability record.
  • Bilingualism may be required in accordance with the French Language Services Act.
  • Project Management designation or relevant trade certification considered an asset.
