You as a Building Operator (Casual) will:

  • Acknowledge alarms and review computer printout of building automation, fire alarm, pneumatic tube, and medical gas systems; troubleshoot and try to clear
  • Operate chillers, cooling towers, steam boilers, hot water boilers and their auxiliary and ancillary equipment, promptly responds to their alarms, troubleshoots, fixes or isolates
  • Clean and maintain cooling tower, chiller tubes and fire chamber of hot water and steam
  • Perform preventative maintenance on air compressors, air dryer, actuators, regulator, valves and control airlines as
  • Respond to fire alarm and other emergency codes, reset fire alarm panel and other related equipment upon the request of the Fire Marshal
  • Respond to elevator’s troubles, initiate elevator service calls when patients, staff or visitors are trapped in, and inform Supervisor for other related emergency service
  • Respond to the maintenance and trouble calls as requested and trouble shoots, performs minor repairs or isolates the problems, consults supervisor for after hour service calls
  • Inspect plant equipment and facility’s mechanical rooms daily and fill out the necessary log sheets
  • Test, calibrate, measure, and adjust control devices and space environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity and air flow throughout the facility including patient isolation
  • Close PM and routine work orders on the PDA after completing work assignments
  • Maintain Logs and write reports as required and requested
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required and as assigned by the supervisor

Is this the right role for you?


  • Mandatory: Ontario Third Class Stationary Engineer certificate or Building Operator Certificate/ Diploma or equivalent. Minimum 5 years related experienced in plant operations
  • Minimum: Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently. Ability to reach mechanical, electrical, and control drawings. Knowledge of building automation systems, chillers, boiler, water treatment and fire alarm systems. Demonstrated computer skills. Must be physically able to do the job.
  • Preferred: Experience with Honeywell BAS, fire alarms, pneumatic tubes, and medical gas systems
