About this Role
Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities or designate, this position is responsible to assist the Building Operator with the day-to-day duties and operations. This position is responsible to enforce the provisions of the building operations, maintenance and repairs throughout the site.
What You’ll Get to DO!
- Assist the Building Operator in carry out the day-to-day execution of operations and maintenance programs to ensure uninterrupted operations and that asset integrity (cleanliness, elevator maintenance, boilers, HVAC, M&E rooms, etc.) is maintained either directly or via building automation systems;
- Develop an understanding of all building equipment and systems;
- Perform daily rounds and record readings for all major equipment including but not limited to temperatures, pressures, electrical readings, etc. Document and inspect for irregularities in readings.
- Review and complete daily entries into the engineer's log.
- Complete preventive/demand maintenance tasks including but not limited to chemical water treatment, filter changes, belt replacement, lubrications, cleaning of utility rooms, maintenance of fire prevention systems, testing and inspecting equipment for proper operation and input histories if required.
- Start-up/shutdown major building equipment as required or directed.
- Inspect, operate, maintain and repair mechanical/electrical systems including but not limited to boilers, chillers, HVAC equipment, pumps, generators, uninterruptible power supplies, life safety system, etc., and ensure all equipment are operated in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable government codes and regulations.
- Monitor electrical power distribution system and building automation system and respond to alarms expeditiously and methodically.
- Respond to service requests and maintenance demands; record data and ensure completed work meets quality and response requirements;
- Assist in maintaining the Preventative Maintenance Programs, Work Orders and Building Inspections in Building Engines;
- Assist with the inventory of materials and supplies for maintenance activities;
- Track and record all meter consumption data;
- Provide assistance to coordinate onsite construction projects;
- Assist with the report status of maintenance and repair work;
- Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, and fire protection;
- Must be able and willing to be available for on-call/standby and emergency call-out as required;
- Review and have an understanding of building drawings, floor plans and mechanical/electrical layouts, valve schedules, panels;
- Ensuring customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations;
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and have proven safe lifting techniques and; Performs other duties as assigned.
What you’ll need to be Successful!
- A secondary school diploma or an equivalence or combination of work experience and education;
- Experience in a related field of one (1) or more years with formal training in one or more of the related trade professions would be an asset;
- First Aid and Building Environmental Systems (BES) Class2 working towards Class 1 certification is required;
- Working at heights training is an asset;
- Experience working with power tools;
- Strong organizational/ customer service, interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills;
- Positive attitude toward all aspects of Environment, Health and Safety;
- Knowledge of national and industry codes, regulatory governance and standards such as WHMIS;
- Must have Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook etc.); The ability to obtain registration as a Category 2 Gaming Assistant with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario;
Work Environment Considerations
- Fast paced with multiple priorities, deadlines and deliverables; exposure to some conflict, distress and noise;
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time; This role requires a flexible schedule that adapts to the business needs of a 24-hour operation; will have non-traditional work hours including evening and weekend shifts.

Licensing and Certification Requirements
Permanent employment is dependent upon the authorization and continued approval of Provincial regulatory bodies. New team members will complete an application and will begin work after regulatory approval is granted. Existing team members will reapply as necessary, and continuing work will be dependent upon successful renewal.
For positions that require additional certification, the appropriate level of certification must be maintained.
