Position Overview

STS is seeking a Facility/Grounds Operator to serve as part of the facilities team and work collaboratively to provide safe and secure educational facilities that are clean, well-maintained, comfortable and attractive. Specifically, this position performs general labour tasks related to operation and maintenance of building, vehicles and grounds on the STS campus. The successful candidate will also assist the facilities team with a variety of work requests and maintenances tasks. This position is accountable for modeling a high standard of conduct, safety, procedures and operations while ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of services. There may be opportunity for advancement at a later time, depending on operational need.

Core Areas of Responsibility

· Perform snow removal and general ground maintenance, ship and receive items for event setup and take down, classroom setup, school opening/closing, moving of furniture, equipment and supplies pick up and deliver material, equipment and supplies within the school.

· Operate and maintain vehicles, grounds, snow removal equipment and hand tools.

· Preform minor troubleshooting of all equipment, vehicles and building system issues to ensure the safe and efficient operation.

· Make recommendations for purchasing and maintaining inventory of necessary supplies, tools and equipment.

· Perform all duties in accordance with provincial legislation, industry standards and STS procedures to ensure their own safety and the safety of team members, other employees, students, visitors, and contractors.

· Assist the Director of Facilities and the Facilities Manager.

· Maintain both quality and quantity of work expected of the role in an efficient and timely manner and demonstrate adaptability to change work priorities.

· Assist in the ongoing development and implementation of the STS health and Safety Program.

· Take ownership in initiative of respective area and report all maintenance requirements, deficiencies and safety concerns to the Director of Facilities and Facilities Manager.

· Perform minor repairs to all building systems including drywall, painting, cabinetry work, doors and windows, exterior and interior finishing, roofing systems, floor systems, floor finishes, molding, and ceiling tile.

· Communicate effectively and demonstrate teamwork to contribute towards positive relationships.

· Effectively prioritize and solve assisted work problems in collaboration with the Facilities Manager and Director of Facilities.

· Maintain clean and tidy workspaces.

Qualifications and Experience

· High School Diploma.

· A valid Alberta class 5 driver’s license.

· Strong customer service skills and ability to maintain confidentiality with tack and diplomacy.

· Suitable demeanor to work within the diverse school community and ability to maintain positive relationships with students, parents, employees, contractors, and outside agencies.

· Demonstrated ability to understand, speak and write in English, have strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to keep accurate records.

· Demonstrated working knowledge of computers (e.g. Microsoft Office and building management systems).

· Must be able to lift moderate to heavy weight (100 lbs) and be comfortable when working at heights.

· Knowledge of occupational hazard and safety measures specific to facilities.

· Self-Motivated; able to work independently without supervision.

· Strong organization and time management skills and demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment.
