The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for two (2) permanent part-time and one (1) temporary part-time Facility Operator with the Parks, Recreation and Facilities division. These positions are located at the Dresden Arena.
Job description
The Facility Operator is responsible for coordinating, maintenance/repairs of the area arenas, beaches, community halls, outdoor pools, parks, sports fields, etc.
Essential responsibilities
- Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies
- Operate ice resurfacer and/or other specialized equipment, power tools, cleaning and safety equipment, including ice maintenance
- Janitorial, building, pool, and park duties
- General building maintenance, including building repairs
- Maintain specialized equipment/tools
- Setting up/taking down equipment for special events
- Assume responsibility for the safe operation of the facility during a scheduled shift
- Follow established preventive maintenance repairs
- Maintain facility logbooks as required
Essential qualifications
- Secondary School Diploma or equivalent education (i.e., GED certificate) with six (6) months to two (2) years of related experience
- General custodial work (changing light bulbs, sweeping, cleaning rest rooms, waste removal, windows, woodwork, etc.) and building maintenance (painting, etc.) experience preferred
- Basic computer skills
Other qualifications
- Experience/knowledge of arena facility operations (including ice resurface machine experience) an asset
- Previous maintenance experience with electrical, plumbing, heating, and ventilation systems an asset
- Experience using specialized equipment/tools (i.e. electric motors, pumps, tractors, etc.) an asset
- Experience setting up for special events an asset
Certifications, memberships, licenses
- Standard First Aid/CPR certificate preferred
- Class "B" refrigeration ticket an asset
- Automated External Defibrillators (AED) training an asset
- Propane handling certificate an asset
- Certified ice technician (CIT) certificate an asset
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certificate an asset
- Certified Parks Inspector (CPI) certificate an asset
- Confined space certificate an asset
- Chainsaw certificate an asset
Work environment/hours of work
- This position works both indoors and outdoors
- This position works weekday, afternoon, evening and weekend hours
Driver’s license/vehicle requirements
Because of the responsibilities, this position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G (or higher) Ontario driver’s licence; a driver’s abstract will be conducted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. An acceptable driver’s abstract will: be an original document and current (within the previous thirty (30) days); have no more than four (4) demerit points; have no more than two (2) convictions for the same offence; have no criminal code convictions; have no ‘non-medical or administrative’ license suspension in the preceding three (3) years.
Background check requirements
The successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) (working with vulnerable persons) prior to commencement of employment; you must be 18 years of age or older to obtain a vulnerable persons police check.

Benefits
These part-time positions will receive an hourly wage of $22.50-$25.00 plus vacation and statutory benefits in accordance with the Employment Standards Act.
