From skating to swimming to recreation programs and more, our rec centre provides a wide range of recreation services and programs to residents of Hope and FVRD Electoral Areas A and B. We have an exciting opportunity for someone who likes working with their hands and providing excellent customer service to fill the position of Facility Operator III in the Hope & Area Recreation Centre located in the heart of Hope.

As a Facility Operator III, you’ll take on a wide range of hands-on responsibilities that keep our recreation centre running smoothly and our community coming back. From operating and maintaining refrigeration, pool mechanical, and ice-making systems to conducting routine plant checks and performing janitorial and scheduled maintenance duties, you’ll be involved in every aspect of day-to-day operations. You’ll also prepare spaces for programs and events, monitor safety standards, enforce facility rules during public sessions, and provide direct support to patrons and user groups. This role is ideal for someone with strong mechanical skills, a sharp eye for detail, and a commitment to creating a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for everyone who uses the facility. In this position, the successful candidate must be available for shifts within the 24-hour operation of the facility including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

The ideal candidate must have:

  • BC Safety Authority Fifth Class Power Engineer Certificate (refrigeration);
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a maintenance/janitorial environment, preferably in a recreation or educational facility;
  • BCRPA Pool Operator’s Certificate (Level II), or be willing and able to obtain this certificate;
  • RFABC Ice Maker’s Training Course Certificate, or be willing and able to obtain this certificate;
  • Basic knowledge of conditioners, water filters, refrigeration, and other mechanical equipment and machinery;
  • Ability to operate ice resurface machine, ice edger, and other related arena and pool equipment;
  • Good customer service skills, courtesy, tact and diplomacy, and remain professional in dealing with the public;
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively;
  • Able to pass a Criminal Record Check;
  • A valid Driver’s Licence.


The wage rate for this full-time union position is $34.56 per hour (2024 rate) plus a comprehensive benefits package.
