About the team

The Global Benefits & Leave Program Manager will provide strategic leadership and hands-on operational management for Turo's US and international benefits and leave of absence programs. This role is pivotal in ensuring our programs attract and retain top talent in a dynamic technology environment. You will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, administration, and communication of comprehensive global benefit programs, ensuring competitive offerings, compliance, and an exceptional employee experience that supports Turo's diverse workforce. The incumbent will also own the end-to-end management of all global leave of absence programs, policies, and processes. This role offers the opportunity to significantly impact the employee experience.

What you will do


Global Benefits Management:

  • Lead the strategic development, design, and management of global benefits programs and objectives, enhancing current programs based on benchmarking, employee feedback, compliance, and cost considerations, with a focus on scalable solutions that support our global footprint.

  • Administer U.S. and international benefit programs, including, but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, disability, life, flexible spending, wellness, and perks (perquisites) across regions such as the US, Canada, Australia, UK, and Europe.

  • Administer U.S. and international retirement benefits.

  • Lead and manage annual global benefit renewal processes, including recommending a go-forward approach, reviewing communications, and conducting enrollment system testing.

  • Manage relationships with the benefits broker team, third-party benefit plan providers, and other external vendors, including evaluating ROI and recommending changes to leadership.

  • Conduct new employee benefits orientations.

  • Partner with third-party administrators to investigate discrepancies, claim issues, and provide information in non-routine situations.

  • Partner with the payroll team to ensure proper benefits deductions or payments are made on a timely basis.

  • Gather employee insights by conducting employee surveys and/or focus groups and analyzing responses.

  • Respond to benefit-related questions and simplify benefits communication, FAQs, and self-service tools.

  • Review and approve benefit elections in the enrollment system (Workday).

  • Assist with Wellness events and initiatives.

  • Manage benefits compliance audits and reporting, ensuring plan compliance with regulatory filings and guidelines for health and welfare, and 401k plans.

  • Keep current on regulations and new legislation.


Global Leave of Absence (LOA) Program Management:

  • Own and oversee the global leave of absence program, ensuring effective support for all LOA administration cases, including general administration and compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations related to leaves including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, PFL, ADA, and company-specific leave programs such as Paid Parental Leave.

  • Provide excellent customer service by ensuring timely responses while offering education along with expert guidance to all potential LOA inquiries.

  • Monitor and identify opportunities for efficiencies within the leave process and system, continuously improving for efficiency and compliance.

  • Participate in and support the People Ops team with specific LOA and compliance projects.

  • Work closely with People Business Partners and managers to provide suggestions and guidance as it relates to leave policy, processes, and specific employee scenarios that may need additional attention.

  • Educate and counsel managers and HR on leave-related policies and procedures and conduct training as necessary.

  • Properly engage with employees in the interactive process and document the process concerning reasonable accommodations.

  • Provide detailed Leave of Absence reports to People Operations leadership, including program utilization reports detailing employees on leave, frequency, and qualifying events.

  • Coordinate with STD/LTD vendors for employer statements and leave notifications.

  • Attend educational webinars and workshops to continue to stay up to date on the changing environment of leave of absence administration.

Your profile

  • 8+ years of experience in global employee benefit plan and leave of absence administration, including Canada, Australia, UK, and Europe.

  • Experience with Workday’s benefits module and reporting is required.

  • A working knowledge of ERISA, COBRA, Internal Revenue Codes (as they apply to health and welfare plans), and other statutes governing employer sponsored benefit plans is needed for this position.

  • Strong Knowledge of Federal, State and local regulations related to leaves including FMLA, state specific entitlements, ADA, company specific leave programs and all associated wage replacement options.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to provide a positive employee experience, with expertise in resolving complex, non-routine benefits and leave issues.

  • Proven ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders (e.g., People Business Partners, Legal, Payroll) and external vendors to drive effective program management and positive employee outcomes.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced organization, adapting quickly to evolving business needs and regulatory landscapes.

  • Technical job knowledge, a "hands-on" approach, combined with strong communications, and relationship building skills are critical.

  • Take initiative to identify and anticipate client needs and make recommendations for implementation.

Bonus if you have

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • CEBS and/or PHR certifications are a plus.

For this role, the target base salary range in San Francisco is 140,000-$175,000 annually. This role is also eligible for equity and benefits. In general, our ranges reflect the market-based target for new hire salaries based on the level and location of the role. Within the range, individual pay is determined by objective factors assessed during the application and interview process, such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Turists will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
