Turo is seeking an experienced Manager, Global Payroll to oversee the company’s global payroll function. Reporting to the Director, Finance Transformation, the ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of payroll processing experience with a proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally. This person will be a key partner between Accounting, People Ops and outside vendors, supporting cross-team initiatives, including system upgrades and improvements, as well as handling payroll related accounting and compliance matters.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys hands-on payroll processing and is excited about the opportunity to make a difference. We are seeking a candidate that is an expert in US payroll processing and holds some experience in managing international payrolls.

With support from the Senior Payroll Analyst, the Manager, Global Payroll will be responsible for the processing of semi-monthly, multi-state payroll in the U.S. utilizing ADP WorkforceNow. This individual will also be responsible for managing outsourced payrolls in Canada, Europe, and Australia with our third-party payroll processors in each country. This person will also assist in preparing data and analysis for the monthly close process and annual audits.


Core responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for day-to-day global payroll operations and processing, ensuring payroll is processed timely and accurately.

  • Hands on payroll processing for approximately 900 US multi-state employees.

  • Management and review of outsourced payroll for approximately 200 international employees.

  • Manage relationships with third-party payroll vendors in Canada, Europe, and Australia.

  • Review quarterly and annual payroll tax filings; ensure all local statutory payroll and fringe benefit reporting requirements are met.

  • Respond to tax notices, wage orders, and governmental correspondences.

  • Act as an employee liaison for all payroll related queries. Provide exceptional customer service, promptly addressing all related questions and concerns.

  • Act as a key business partner to the People Ops and Accounting teams, providing guidance and support in the implementation of corporate initiatives.

  • Ensure stock activity for employees is properly processed and reported through payroll.

  • Support various external, payroll and agency audits, both domestic and international.

  • Responsible for the generation of payroll related journal entries, assistance in completion of account reconciliations of key payroll accounts and supporting month end accounting close activities.

  • Develop and enforce payroll policies and procedures to ensure proper internal controls and efficient processes.

  • Oversee 401k handling, funding, audits and manage relationships with a third-party vendor.

  • Responsible for continuous improvement and lead implementation of best-in-class payroll and employee-facing systems.

  • Assist with special projects as needed.


Requirements:

  • A minimum of eight years of experience managing end to end payroll process, preferably for a public, multinational company.

  • Experience managing multiple third-party payroll providers in international locations.

  • Thorough knowledge of the entire payroll process including wage and tax compliance requirements across domestic and multiple international payrolls.

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Human Resources, Finance or related field preferred.

  • CPP, CIPP or relevant payroll certification preferred.

  • General knowledge of benefits programs.

  • General knowledge of equity compensation programs (options, RSUs, ESPP).

  • Prior accounting and GL account reconciliation experience a plus.

  • Public company and SOX Compliance experience preferred.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (i.e. Pivot tables, V-lookups)

  • Advanced payroll systems skills required and strong knowledge of HRIS and benefit administration tools.

  • ADP WorkforceNow and Workday HRIS experience is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with Jira ticketing system a plus.

  • Excellent management and organizational skills.

  • A high level of attention to detail.

  • Ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines.

  • Must be able to handle confidential, sensitive information and adhere to company’s privacy policies.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills needed to interface and establish rapport with all levels of the organization.

  • A proactive, high-energy attitude geared towards achieving continuous improvement.

  • Ability to operate in a fast paced, rapidly evolving, and data driven organization.

For this role, the target base salary range in San Francisco is $134,000 - $151,000 annually. This role is also eligible for equity and the benefits described below. In general, our ranges reflect the market-based target for new hire salaries based on the level and location of the role. Within the range, individual pay is determined by objective factors assessed during the application and interview process, such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
