Are you a seasoned financial leader who is ready to drive operational efficiency and growth? We are hiring for a Controller! This is a full-time remote position, based out of North America (Canada or USA only).

As the Controller at ToursByLocals, you will ensure robust financial management through meticulous accounting, efficient operations, strict compliance, and effective team management. Reporting into the Head of Finance, you will lead accounting operations, accounting and tax compliance, ensure accurate financial reporting, conduct audits, and work closely with our operation, legal and HR team. You will manage and collaborate with the Finance team (7 individuals) to implement and refine processes that support ToursByLocals’ strategic objectives. If this sounds like you, apply below!

Your primary goal is to maintain precise financial records and ensure regulatory adherence to enhance ToursByLocals' financial and operational efficiency. Here’s how you’ll do that:

    • Financial Management, Reporting and Compliance:
      • Oversee the preparation and analysis of accurate, GAAP-compliant financial statements and management reports.
      • Develop and maintain robust financial forecasting and budgeting processes.
      • Provide insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
      • Ensure tax compliance by overseeing timely filing and adherence to all relevant tax laws.
      • Coordinate and manage the annual audit process, serving as the primary liaison with external auditors.
    • Team Leadership and Development:
      • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team to ensure high performance and job satisfaction.
      • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth within the finance department.
    • Operational Efficiency and Internal Controls:
      • Implement and optimize accounting processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
      • Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial processes.
      • Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
      • Lead the implementation of financial systems and best practices to leverage technology and automation.
    • Financial Strategy and Business Partnership:
      • Monitor cash flow, manage working capital, and optimize financial operations to enhance profitability.
      • Collaborate closely with other departments to align financial goals with overall business objectives.
      • Prepare and present clear, concise financial reports to senior management, highlighting key insights and actionable recommendations.
      • Partner with operational teams to ensure business procedures facilitate timely payments and responses to financial inquiries.

    You may be the right person for this role if you:

    • Have 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a management role, preferably with international accounting experience.
    • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field and a CPA certification.
    • Have previously implemented process improvements and internal controls, and are experienced in managing month-end close processes and financial statement preparation.
    • Possess strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
    • Love to learn and grow - you challenge yourself to learn, fail, and constantly improve, whether that’s through formal education or by gaining professional experience.

    • Possess experience with system implementations or major upgrades, as well as working within a multi-entity and multi-currency environment.

    We are committed to equitable compensation for employees in similar roles across various regions. The hiring range for this position in Canada is set at $130,000 - $180,000 CAD. We look forward to discussing this with you during our hiring process.
