As the Company’s first Senior Tax Analyst at Thinkific, you will be a high-impact member of a high-performing accounting team. Reporting to the Controller, you will act as our internal tax expert, partnering with the business to manage a range of tax projects, ensure ongoing compliance and assist in driving our overall tax strategy.

Your key goal will be to manage our tax compliance and collaborate on several high-visibility projects. Here’s how you’ll accomplish this. Here’s how you’ll accomplish this:

  • Own the sales tax remittance process, by using billing information from Stripe to remit sales tax returns in the US (via Avalara), Canada, and UK/EU
  • Reconcile tax liability accounts and handle monthly journal entries using Workday
  • Support sales tax programs by managing Thinkific's collection and remittance on behalf of customers, and provide escalation support for the customer service team
  • Prepare transfer pricing journal entries, manage inter-company agreements and monitor for optimization opportunities
  • Research and provide recommendations for any relevant tax matters (corporate, transfer pricing, marketplace facilitator regs in other countries)
  • Assess sales tax on all revenue streams (subscriptions and Commerce) and registration in required future jurisdictions
  • Prepare the year-end corporate tax note
  • Act as the key contact for year-end audit and quarterly reviews for all tax-related questions
  • Manage the distribution of 1099k forms
  • Identify and take on ad-hoc projects as required

The person we have in mind likely:

  • Has 5+ years of tax experience, with 2 years post-designation experience preferred
  • Holds a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or relevant
  • Has previous experience at a Big 4 accounting firm
  • Holds a CPA designation
  • Has advanced knowledge in Excel or Google Sheets and is comfortable working with large data sets
  • Is proactive, can think critically, and solve problems independently.
  • Is highly organized and detail-oriented with excellent time management and communication skills
  • Is excited to innovate and continuously improve our tax processes
  • Loves to learn and grow. They’ve found (and keep looking for) ways to level up their skills in this field, whether that’s through formal education or gaining professional experience

These things would also be nice, but we think you could learn them on the job:

  • Experience working in the technology industry
  • Familiarity with Workday Financials
  • Familiarity with Stripe or other payment processing systems
  • Familiarity with Avalara
