Director of Finance
Vertus Group | Markham, ON | Hybrid
Vertus Group is seeking a Director of Finance to lead financial strategy, operations and forecasting across a portfolio of independently operated software businesses. This senior leadership role requires a seasoned finance executive who brings sound judgment, accountability, and the ability to drive operational results in a high‑growth, acquisition‑driven environment.
The successful candidate is a decisive leader who can build and develop a high‑performance team, lead systems implementations, execute integration plans, and partner with executives to support operational and strategic objectives. This role demands a balance of strategic insight and hands‑on execution.
This hybrid position requires one to two days a week in our Markham office and may include occasional travel.

Key Responsibilities
Executive Financial Leadership
- Drive delivery of operational financial objectives, aligning teams and processes to portfolio goals.
- Drive financial reporting objectives across acquisition integration, designing and implementing standard processes and creating an environment of continuous improvement.
- Exercise clear decision‑making and ownership over financial outcomes across multiple businesses.
Financial Planning & Strategic Analysis
- Lead the financial planning cycle, including budgeting, forecasting, and quarterly strategic reviews with business leaders.
- Evaluate performance, identify risks and opportunities, and provide strategic insights to support capital allocation and growth initiatives.
- Lead the development of robust financial models to support decision‑making across the portfolio.
Business Partnering & Executive Support
- Serve as a trusted advisor to portfolio leaders, providing transparent insights into performance and strategic direction.
- Support pricing, margin optimization, working capital enhancements, and business case development.
- Coordinate with Legal, Tax, HR, and Corporate Development to ensure alignment with corporate policies and portfolio objectives.
M&A Integration & Portfolio Expansion
- Lead integration of newly acquired businesses, including reporting, systems, processes, controls, and organizational alignment.
- Establish and execute integration plans that ensure operational readiness, systems adoption, and delivery of acquisition objectives.
- Partner on setting finance and administration infrastructure in new geographies that supports international expansion.
Financial Systems Leadership
- Lead the configuration, implementation, and optimization of a new reporting, consolidation and planning system across the portfolio.
- Partner with finance team to incorporate existing forecasting models into new planning system.
- Document and redesign processes to support scalable, efficient financial operations.
- Drive automation and modernization to eliminate manual processes and enhance reporting capabilities.
Team Leadership, Coaching & Culture
- Build, develop, and mentor a high‑performing finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Set clear expectations, provide regular coaching and feedback, and support career development across the finance function.
- Oversee local and international finance teams to ensure alignment with portfolio standards and business objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA designation required.
- 10–15 years of progressive experience in leadership, accounting, financial reporting, and/or FP&A.
- Experience in public accounting and/or the software industry strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams, influencing senior leadership, and owning financial outcomes.
- Advanced knowledge of IFRS, including significant experience applying IFRS 15 to complex transactions.
- Strong leadership presence with proven decision‑making capability and operational execution.
- Experience leading international finance teams or multi‑jurisdiction operations is an asset.
- Proficiency in additional languages (French, German, Spanish) is an advantage for global coordination.
