Carbon Markets and Renewable Energy Lead

Job Opportunity
SWTCH is seeking a Carbon Markets and Renewable Energy Lead to join our growing team! Reporting to the Head of Finance & Strategy, and in close partnership with the commercial and operation teams, you will define SWTCH’s Carbon Credit and renewable energy strategy, and lead its operational success.
You will ensure that SWTCH takes full advantage of the carbon credit markets in North America, particularly the LCFS markets in the West Coast of the U.S. and British Columbia, and the CFR market in Canada. You will also build and deploy a strategy to participate in voluntary carbon markets in North America. Finally, you will help craft SWTCH’s strategy to procure 100% renewable energy for its charging stations, and lead other related initiatives.
Responsibilities
Lead our carbon credits process from end to end
- Ensure we maximize the number of customers participating in our carbon credit program, via a mix of outreach and automation; build an efficient customer enrollment process and help update contracts accordingly
- Own relationships with brokers, verification agencies and regulators, including quarterly & annual reporting
- Support SWTCH discussions with large credit buyers for potential bilateral deals
- Refine SWTCH’s approach to sharing credit revenues with partners and customers; build guidance for sales team; put together associated payment structure
Expand the Carbon Credit opportunity for SWTCH
- Work with the policy team to strengthen carbon credit markets and expand them to other geographies
- Build and execute SWTCH’s strategy to participate in voluntary carbon markets, including reaching out to carbon credit certification agencies, setting up a verification program, enrolling chargers and ensuring compliance
Lead our initiative on clean electricity charging
- Study the feasibility of offering 100% renewable energy at some or all of our charging stations
- Build a business case and rollout plan for this initiative and present to the executive team
- Execute rollout plan, from contract execution with energy providers, to contract signing with customers, to updates to our internal and external reporting dashboards
Lead other Carbon Credit-adjacent or ESG initiatives:
- Work with our People and Culture and Operations team to improve our ESG reporting to investors and third parties
- As needed, work with our Strategy and Operations team to apply process improvements for carbon credits to other similar programs such as Utility reporting and Demand Response programs
Qualifications
- 4-6 years’ experience in Project Management, Consulting or a similar role, with a successful track record running projects involving large enterprise data sets
- Familiarity with Carbon markets, Renewable Energy Credits, and/or Carbon lifecycle analysis
- Proven ability to navigate complex compliance issues
- Business Development experience: ability to seek out and qualify commercial partners, work through and execute commercial terms, and sustain a commercial relationship
- Adaptable self-starter with strong problem solving skills; ability to deal with multiple, complex business issues and competing priorities in a start-up environment
Additional (non-required, but preferred) qualifications:
- Experience in Low Carbon Fuel Credit markets, particularly in California & West coast, British Columbia, or Canada; alternatively, experience with other types of Carbon Credit markets (compliance-based or voluntary) or with Renewable Energy Certificates
- Experience in e-mobility, E.V. Charging or the renewable energy industry
- Experience working directly with a State or Federal regulator
