About Super.com

We started Super.com to help maximize lives – both the lives of our customers and the lives of our team – so that everyone can experience all that life has to offer. For our employees, our promise is that Super.com is more than just a job; it’s an opportunity to unlock one’s potential, where learning is celebrated and impact is realized.

We are more than a fast-paced, high-growth tech company; we care about our people and take career progression seriously. This is your career and our aim is to supercharge it through the people, the work, and the programs that fuel who we are.

About the role

As our Engineering Director for Core Experience, you’ll build and lead a new organization focused on the membership and user experience that spans all Super.com product verticals. The org will launch with four teams, three established and one being created, and will serve as both the home for shared experience work and the incubator for early-stage vertical ideas.

You’ll report to the VP Engineering and partner closely with the VP Product to define and drive the long-term experience strategy for the platform. You’ll lead Engineering Managers and a Senior EM across teams that span full-stack product development as well as customer-service and operations-related systems, ensuring a cohesive, frictionless experience for members at every touchpoint.

You’ll be a key driver of engineering standards, best practices, and improvements to our product development lifecycle. While you may occasionally jump into technical details to unblock momentum, your real impact comes from architectural leadership, organizational clarity, and elevating execution across the teams you lead.

Our stack includes React on the frontend and Python/Node microservices on the backend. You’ll also work with GitLab, AWS, Postgres, Redis, Datadog, Amplitude, and Snowflake as you scale our systems and elevate the engineering craft across the org.

About the team

Super.com engineering has four full-stack product development focus areas: fintech, travel, earnings, and a Super+ membership program to unite them all. Our dozens of microservices and event-driven architecture handle thousands of requests and events per second, ingest over 1TB of data per day, and process over $1MM per day in sales, leveraging state of the art infrastructure. We have more than 100 contributors to our codebase with highly skilled engineers across our teams. We work in close partnership with Product Managers, Designers, and QA in an agile/scrum, fast-paced, scaleup environment (that respects work/life balance). We focus on driving business value through ambitious technical achievement, and place a huge emphasis on providing the structure to fast-track our team members' growth.

What you’ll be working on:

  • Own the technical strategy and delivery for the Core Experience organization, ensuring we’re building the right things and shipping them well.

  • Lead and develop Engineering Managers and Engineering Leads, providing coaching, clearing technical and organizational blockers, and driving strong performance across teams.

  • Partner with Product leadership on quarterly OKR planning, ensuring engineering brings meaningful initiatives to the table, prioritizes rigorously, and plans capacity responsibly.

  • Ensure work is distributed effectively across the five teams and that collaboration with other verticals is clear, efficient, and well-defined.

  • Guide architecture and system design decisions, setting direction and raising the technical bar.

  • Strengthen cross-department collaboration by building tight working relationships with Fraud, Growth, and Data teams, ensuring aligned strategy and seamless execution.

  • Partner with key technical vendors and external partners to ensure they support our roadmap and operational goals.

  • Continuously improve our product development lifecycle for full-stack development in partnership with adjacent engineering groups.

  • Shape the organizational structure, hiring plans, and talent strategy for the Core Experience engineering group.

  • Maintain a healthy balance between velocity and long-term sustainability, ensuring teams ship fast without creating future disasters.

  • Contribute to cross-vertical engineering initiatives, including best practices, guild leadership, and engineering standards.

  • Jump into the code when it’s the fastest path to clarity or impact.

What we’re looking for:

  • At least 5 years of people leadership, including managing managers and senior ICs, with 2+ of those years at a Director level or equivalent.

  • Proven success leading a multi-team engineering organization, including full-stack product teams.

  • Experience stepping into an existing org and improving clarity, execution, and cohesion.

  • Demonstrated strength in hiring, developing, and scaling high-performing teams.

  • Strong track record of delivering major products and features, with a disciplined approach to balancing speed and long-term sustainability.

  • Prior depth as a Senior Software Engineer or Technical Lead (3+ years minimum), with the architectural judgment to challenge designs, shape system direction, and guide senior ICs toward sound technical decisions.

  • Strong understanding of modern web architectures, distributed systems, and microservice design patterns, with the ability to steer teams toward resilient, scalable solutions.

  • Deep expertise in either backend or frontend systems design, with solid working knowledge of the other to make cross-stack architectural tradeoffs.

  • Comfortable evaluating implementations in JavaScript and Python ecosystems.

  • Experience designing or operating services at meaningful scale, including performance, reliability, and observability considerations.

  • Proven ability to drive strategic engineering initiatives, such as OKR planning, org design, and multi-team alignment in a dynamic environment.

  • Background in startup or scale-up environments where ambiguity, speed, and iteration are the norm.

Our Technology:

  • We use a state of the art architecture powered by Node and Python microservices and React frontend

  • We use Postgres for storage, Redis for caching, and Snowflake for our data warehouse

  • We use Gitlab for version control and CI/CD, and our infrastructure is hosted on AWS, making use of Kubernetes, RDS, etc

  • We invest heavily in monitoring and automated alerting using Datadog

  • We use Amplitude, Hotjar, and LogRocket for client-side metrics and experimentation

  • We use Material-UI and maintain our own component library, using Figma for mock-ups

  • We integrate with a multitude of third-parties to support our compliance, risk, and security policies

Bonus points for:

  • Familiarity with membership ecosystems, customer lifecycle flows, conversion optimization, or experimentation frameworks that drive user engagement and retention.

  • Experience working with shared platform capabilities such as common services, cross-vertical tooling, or foundational infrastructure that multiple product teams rely on.

  • Experience building or scaling B2C products where user trust, clarity, and seamless experience are essential to growth and retention.

  • Familiarity with our stack and ecosystem: Python, Node, React, Postgres, Redis, Docker, AWS, and related tools.
