Product Quality Technician

In this role, you will facilitate the inbound, proactive, and RMA inspection of products. What you will be responsible for:
- Inbound Product Inspections: Performs inbound product reviews, functional testing and visual inspection of new and existing products to ensure they meet our quality standards. A combination of “New” and “existing” products are prioritized for testing and are released into inventory or held in quarantine as required. Products are released once they are confirmed to comply with relevant certifications and are manufactured to the correct specifications. Lab equipment maintenance and the auditing of available lab equipment is a key part of this position to ensure the timely release of products.
- In-process inspection (product audits of inventory): Selects samples of finished goods from inventory to proactively audit the quality of the products being received from vendors and records the results. Performs audits to follow up on customer reported issues, confirms if the inventory is exposed to the customer reported defect and communicates the findings to Product Management and Product Quality groups.
- Data entry, inspection reports and administration: Records the inspection results and prepares reports summarizing the results of inbound/ in process inspections and communicates the findings to the Product Management, Product Quality and Supply Chain groups. Maintains the quarantine database by setting and removing flags products can be released out of quarantine or held for QC inspection.
The Technician supports the needs of the business and are well aligned with the 4 Pillars by completing the following tasks.
- Product Performance: Inspect, test, and verify the product meets functional and visual requirements.
- Product Information Availability: Verify the product content on the website is active.
- Product Information Quality: Check for information discrepancies on product labeling, packaging, and manuals
- Product Availability: Prioritize high priority products for inspection and release into inventory to support customer demand.
The products that we carry are diverse as technology is constantly changing requiring a high level of knowledge and diversity within this role. Thinking outside of the box is key when troubleshooting technical issues.
Essential Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Experience in MS Office including Excel and Outlook
- Some familiarity and experience with computer hardware products
- Ability to install and conduct tests on StarTech.com products (such as cables, I/O cards, data switches)
- Strong time management skills
- Have industry knowledge of quality processes, inspections, and test procedures
- Strong attention to detail
The qualified candidate will possess analytical skills and will have the ability to work effectively and efficiently while following standard operating procedures when making decisions. The technician works both independently and in a team environment to ensure the smooth release of quality approved products for our customers.
A passion for customer service and well-developed communication skills are a must. This position will be required to liaise with various internal departments both at the Canadian corporate office as well as the US and UK Distribution facilities. This role is responsible for using controlled test instructions and then providing a well formatted communication of all test results. Technicians provide critical explanations of deficiencies and anomalies to better facilitate the decisions required when approving acceptable deviations and the timely release of quality products.
Required Education:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent. Country specific.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 to 5 years of experience in a Quality related role
- Post-Secondary Education or certificate in a Technology or Electronics related discipline
