Location: Montréal, QC
As an ASIC Baseband Designer, you will be a key contributor in designing and implementing the digital baseband subsystems at the heart of SPARK’s UWB transceivers. You will work on the RTL design and verification of key signal processing blocks, MAC/PHY controllers, low-latency interfaces, and custom control logic for wireless communication. You’ll collaborate closely with the analog, RF, firmware, and verification teams to deliver high-performance and robust designs.
Your Responsibilities
- Design and implement RTL for complex digital baseband signal processing blocks (e.g., correlators, decoders, filters, packet engines, etc.).
- Contribute to the architecture and define data/control paths and digital interfaces for the wireless baseband processing pipeline.
- Ensure tight integration with RF, analog, and firmware subsystems.
- Apply low-power and low-latency design principles (clock gating, FSM optimization, data path reduction).
- Contribute to and review block-level and top-level simulations and verification plans.
- Support synthesis, linting, CDC, and STA for your blocks.
- Analyze and debug baseband subsystem behavior using simulations and FPGA prototyping.
- Document the microarchitecture, and design intent.
- Participate in design reviews and system-level discussions to guide future baseband enhancements.
- Coach other members of the team.
Your Background
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or equivalent).
- 10+ years of experience in ASIC or FPGA design, with emphasis on digital baseband or wireless signal processing.
- Proficient in RTL design using VHDL and/or Verilog and/or SystemVerilog.
- Solid understanding of digital communication systems (modulation, demodulation, FEC, timing recovery, equalizer, etc.).
- Experience in designing and integrating MAC/PHY digital logic for wireless protocols.
- Hands-on with RTL verification tools and simulation environments (ModelSim, VCS, etc.).
- Familiar with synthesis, timing closure, and power optimization techniques.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment and collaborating across disciplines.
The Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with wireless standards (UWB, BLE, ZigBee, etc.).
- Experience with Python for signal processing modeling.
- Familiarity with post-silicon bring-up and debug tools.
- Knowledge of ultra-low power design techniques and asynchronous interfaces.
The Perks
- A growing start-up where each person has an important role in the success of the Company.
- Be part of a passionate, creative and motivated team in a collaborative mode.
- A place where you can grow and become the professional you want to be.
- Group insurance from day one.
- Employee stock option plan.
- An exciting social life – events/activities, coffee chats, lunch and learns, and more!
- Flexible work arrangements to balance work/personal life.
- In addition to vacation, sick leave and holidays, Spark offers additional days off.
- Workation – Extend your vacation abroad and work remotely for two weeks per year.
