Spare is looking for a Sales Engineering Team Lead or Manager to join our Product team!
As a Sales Engineering Team Lead or Manager at Spare, you’ll be the technical bridge between our product team and prospective customers. You’ll collaborate closely with sales, product, and customer success teams to understand each customer’s unique needs and pain points to showcase how our solutions can deliver tangible business value.
This role follows a hybrid schedule. We require team members to be in the office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with the option to work remotely on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our office is located in downtown Vancouver, and we believe this balance fosters strong collaboration while supporting flexibility.
The salary provided is the OTE salary in CAD (base + commission).

As a Sales Engineering Team Lead or Manager, you will…
- Recruit, Onboard, and Develop Sales Engineers: Recruit, onboard, and coach new Sales Engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and scalable processes to ensure quality and productivity.
- Set and Track Team Goals & Performance: Set and track quarterly team goals and OKRs, monitoring individual and team performance to identify areas for improvement and ensure alignment with senior leadership.
- Lead Pre-Sales Technical Activities and Support Sales Growth: Lead technical pre-sales activities, including demos, POCs, and customer engagements, while partnering with Sales to drive logo acquisition, revenue growth, and client engagement (including travel to client sites).
- Collaborate with Product Teams and Influence Roadmaps: Collaborate with Product teams to refine technical messaging, influence the product roadmap, and ensure a seamless post-sale handoff to Customer Success.
- Build and Lead High-Performing Team: Build, lead, and coach a high-performing Sales Engineering team, ensuring exceptional individual and team performance by designing, implementing, and optimizing team processes for efficiency and quality.
- Provide Technical Guidance for Complex Deals: Provide technical guidance for complex deals, aligning with customer requirements and pain points, and acting as an escalation point for challenging technical discussions.
- Foster Cross-Functional Collaboration for Growth: Partner with Sales, Product, and Marketing teams to drive new logo acquisition, revenue growth, and influence product roadmaps to ensure technical alignment with market needs.
- Foster a Culture of Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement through training, coaching, performance tracking, real-time feedback, and monitoring key KPIs
About you ✨
You have:
- The motivation, drive, and urgency to thrive in a fast-paced high-growth environment.
- At least 5 years of experience in Sales Engineering or a similar technical pre-sales role, with at least 2 years in a leadership position.
- Proven leadership skills with experience in team performance management, coaching, and professional development.
- Experience with SaaS products and enterprise software solutions.
- Expertise in solution design, demos, RFPs, POCs, and managing technical customer engagements.
- Strong strategic and operational mindset, with experience optimizing workflows and processes.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, working effectively with cross-functional teams to drive business outcomes.
It will be considered an asset if you have:
- Experience scaling a Sales Engineering team past 8 team members.
- Experience working with government clients.
- Knowledge of the transit/transportation industry.
- Experience working with complex, highly configurable software products.
