Summary
Solid State Pharma Inc. (SSPI) is a pharmaceutical research company with expertise in crystallization engineering and solid-state science. SPPI has experienced great success with the workflows that have been developed by combining fundamentals of crystallization and solid form science with years of experience and high throughput techniques. SSPI is conducting research on pharmaceutical crystallization engineering, polymorph screening, salt screening, co-crystal screening, chiral resolution, polymorph quantification, converting amorphous material to crystalline solid, pre-formulation, and chemical and crystallization process modeling. SSPI is working with many global pharmaceutical companies to help them develop active pharmaceutical ingredients with consistent bioavailability and scalable manufacturing processes.
We are seeking a highly capable Analytical Instrumentation Specialist to oversee the performance, maintenance, calibration, and lifecycle management of our advanced analytical instrumentation. This role is critical to ensuring data integrity, uptime, and regulatory readiness across our solid-state, crystallization and pre-formulation facilities.
The successful candidate will act as the central point of contact between internal scientific teams and instrument vendors, ensuring instruments operate at peak performance while supporting ongoing analytical activities.
Job Responsibility
- Instrument Maintenance & Performance
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on a wide range of instruments, including: XRPD, DSC, TGA, HPLC/UPLC/MS, GC (incl. headspace), KF, BET surface area analyzers, DVS systems, EasyMax / process reactors, FBRM / in situ monitoring tools, and many more listed on SSPI website
- Troubleshoot instrument issues and minimize downtime
- Maintain instrument uptime KPIs
- Calibration & Qualification
- Execute and document: IQ/OQ/PQ protocols, routine calibrations and performance verification, ensure instruments meet GMP / regulatory requirements where applicable, maintain calibration schedules and traceability (including external vendors)
- Vendor & Service Management
- Act as primary liaison with instrument vendors: service calls, repairs and troubleshooting, software upgrades and firmware updates, manage service contracts and evaluate vendor performance, coordinate external calibration providers
- Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain: instrument logs, maintenance records, calibration certificates, support QMS requirements, audits, and inspections, assist in developing and updating SOPs for instrument use and maintenance
- Analytical Support (Secondary Role)
- Assist scientists with: basic analytical runs when required, train staff on proper instrument operation and best practices
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to: improve instrument utilization (e.g., underused tools like photostability chamber, water activity systems), reduce downtime and maintenance costs, support implementation of predictive maintenance strategies, evaluate new instrumentation and upgrades
- Other tasks as assigned
Education & Experience
B.Sc./MSc. in analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, chemical engineering; or advanced technical diploma in instrumentation technology, chemical laboratory technology.
Experience (Must Have)
More than 3 years of hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation in pharmaceutical, CRO, chemical or analytical industry.
Experience (Preferred)
Familiarity with GMP / GLP environments, instrument qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), experience interacting directly with vendors/service engineers
