Softmax Data Inc. is headquartered in Vancouver's downtown core. We are a boutique consultancy specializing in developing proprietary software for machine learning, data pipeline, and data analytics. Our client portfolio includes industry leaders such as Clio, MoxiWorks, and DomainTools.

We are seeking a leader with a strong technical background to support our Vancouver-based engineering team working on a new product offering (initial release this summer). This role requires the abilities to drive technical excellence, manage workloads, ensure productivity, and foster a collaborative and innovative environment. The Manager works closely with cross-region and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and successful project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the workload and performance of the engineering team.
  • Run daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to unblock engineers as needed.
  • Ensure high-quality and timely delivery of projects and features.
  • Provide hands on support in feature delivery, bug fixes, and critical development tasks when necessary.
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering leaders to align priorities and ensure successful execution.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
  • Drive team engagement, performance reviews, and professional development of team members.
  • Implement and improve engineering best practices and agile processes.
  • Foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and innovation within engineering teams.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in software development, preferably including 2+ years in a leadership/management role of a team of distributed engineers.
  • Technical background with hands-on programming experience and a degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience working with Rails and React
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and hands-on support when needed.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with global stakeholders.
  • Experience in the real estate tech or related industries is a plus.
  • Experience in facilitating technical design and planning workshops.
  • Familiarity with creating, documenting, and maintaining requirements in tools like Jira and Confluence.
  • Strong collaboration skills with Product Managers and technical teams
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
