Softmax Data Inc. is headquartered in Vancouver's downtown core. We are a boutique consultancy specializing in developing proprietary software for machine learning, data pipeline, and data analytics. Our client portfolio includes industry leaders such as Clio, MoxiWorks, and DomainTools.

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Development Manager with a balance of technical expertise and strong leadership capabilities. This role involves contributing to feature development (75% of the time) and leading engineering teams (25% of the time). The ideal candidate will thrive in a dual role, acting as both a hands-on developer and a mentor to our engineering team, collaborating with internal as well as external stakeholders to support one of our core clients.

Responsibilities

• Develop new product features, contributing significantly to the codebase.

• Hire, lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers, fostering a high-performance culture.

• Translate customer requirements and business needs into effective software solutions.

• Drive best practices and development principles, with a focus on continuous improvement and key metrics.

• Assist Engineering Leadership with feature delivery, timeline management, and removing blockers to meet sprint goals.

• Address and reduce support backlogs by identifying and resolving high-impact issues.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering management and delivery in an Agile environment, with a track record of building high-performing teams.

• 7+ years of software engineering experience.

• Proficiency in Rails and React (required); experience with AWS, EKS, Buildkite, Postgres, SQL, and Sidekiq (preferred).

• Strong understanding of the Scrum framework and Agile methodologies.

• Exposure to AI technologies.

• Residing in or willing to relocate to the Greater Vancouver Area.

• Willingness to travel to Seattle for client meetings, 2-4 weeks each quarter.

• Experience with Docker containers and development environments.

• Proficiency with Git for code repository and workflow management.em in a development environment
