Position description:
Senior Product Manager
About Signal 1
US health systems will spend $100–130 billion on AI between 2025 and 2030, but studies show that 95% of AI initiatives don't deliver measurable impact. Currently, health systems have little to no insight into which AI solutions actually work and bring value, meaning that millions of dollars are wasted on tools that don't make a difference.
Signal 1's AI Management System enables health systems to operate scalable and valuable AI programs that can ensure solutions are performing as expected and make data-driven decisions on where to invest. Purpose-built for healthcare and informed by experience managing AI at scale, Signal 1 empowers health systems to use AI to its full potential and maximize impact on patient care. We were founded by Tomi Poutanen (former Chief AI Officer at TD Bank, co-founder of the Vector Institute and Radical Ventures) and Mara Lederman (previously a professor at University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management and lead at Creative Destruction Lab), with early backing from Geoffrey Hinton.
About the role
Health systems are moving fast from buying to building AI. That shift changes the problems that an AI management system needs to solve:
It's no longer enough to monitor a vendor's model, health systems now need the infrastructure to build safe and effective agents that deliver impact and bring a real return on investment.
We have a clear thesis on the problem and the solution, and early validation from health systems who are already excited about what we're building. You'll come in and own it from here: pressure-testing the plan against what customers tell you, sharpening it where the evidence points somewhere better, and making the real calls on what we build and in what order.
This role suits someone who has already taken a product from hypothesis to MVP to a revenue-generating line of business, and is ready to own that kind of ambiguity and drive that kind of outcome again.
About the team
You'll work with a team of engineers, machine learning scientists, and product people who are ambitious and passionate about their craft. We work hard and move fast to shape the way healthcare uses AI for the better. Our office is based in Toronto and we come together 2-3 days a week to collaborate, innovate, and have fun.
What you'll do
- Customer obsession: Build a deep understanding of customer workflows and pain points and work directly with our design partners to uncover and validate opportunities and solutions. Model that empathy in your work and hold the team to that same bar.
- Be an expert in the landscape: Partner with Engineering and Go-To-Market teams to understand how customers buy and evaluate solutions, and run market and competitive analyses to help sharpen where we play and how we win.
- Shape the market: Build a real point of view on where agentic AI in healthcare is headed and establish Signal 1 as a category leader through product decisions, thought leadership content, and customer advisory boards discussions.
- Own and evolve the roadmap: Navigate ambiguity and translate complex problems into clear priorities, explicit tradeoffs, and a sequenced path forward; rally cross-functional teams around on the why; and tie everything back to customer value or a business outcome.
- Ship-learn-iterate rapidly: Build alongside engineering and design as true partners, sharing ownership of the outcome. Be the one who keeps the drumbeat and ensures the team keeps momentum and delivers sprint after sprint.
- Craft the story: Work closely with Marketing on value messaging and product positioning that translates what we’ve built into why it matters for different personas like executives, clinicians, and technical stakeholders.
You'll be a great fit if you have:
Experience:
- Proven product management experience in B2B SaaS startups where you have taken a product from an early
hypothesis to a revenue-generating product area
- Deep understanding of and experience with building agentic AI and AI systems. You don't need to be the smartest technical person in the room, but you have a demonstrated history building agents and/or AI-powered platforms/applications, and that experience lets you hold real technical conversations and make sound trade-off calls with engineers.
- Experience working on a product sold to US health systems is a nice-to-have
Product management fundamentals:
- High agency and the resourcefulness to get the information you need to make decisions, paired with strong product intuition to make good, fast calls even when the picture is incomplete
- Clear, succinct, and precise communication skills. You make sure everyone stays on the same page even when things are moving fast and the topics are genuinely complex, translating across technical and non-technical audiences along the way.
- A fast, organized, AI-native way of working. You move quickly without dropping things, and you use AI tools daily to speed up every step of the product development process (user research, idea generation, prototyping, etc) without sacrificing quality.
- A high bar for craft. You push beyond "does it work?" to "does it feel right?" and you carry that standard through every detail.
What we'll bring
- Competitive compensation (base salary + bonus + equity) in a high-growth company
- Comprehensive health benefits
- 4 weeks PTO
