What it means to be an Audience Development Manager
We get it, you want to know what you’re signing up for before you apply, right? This is what you need to know. This role is ideal for someone who is analytical, forward-thinking, solutions-oriented, and excited to help define what modern audience development looks like in a time of constant change.
As an Audience Development Manager at Duplex, you’ll be responsible for:
Managing day-to-day programming and optimization of social content across platforms like X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Flipboard
Overseeing newsletter strategy, including audience growth, segmentation, and performance for multiple titles in the Quartz Media Network
Collaborating with editorial to improve headlines, thumbnails, and metadata for social, SEO, and newsletter distribution
Running A/B tests on subject lines, send times, and post formats to improve click-through and engagement
Analyzing performance data from tools like GA4, Parse.ly, Chartbeat, and our ESP (Delivra) to surface actionable insights
Experimenting with automation tools, audience workflows, and platform-native features to optimize efficiency and performance
Staying ahead of platform trends and contributing to how we innovate in a rapidly evolving media landscape
After 1 week
You’ve onboarded to our CMS, ESP, analytics tools, and publishing platforms
You’ve met key collaborators across Editorial, Marketing, and Product
You’ve reviewed current social calendars, newsletter workflows, and platform performance
After 1 month
You’re running the day-to-day social and newsletter publishing across Quartz and TheInventory
You’ve conducted your first A/B test and shared early results
You’ve delivered a performance summary with recommendations for improvement
After 6 months
You’ve demonstrated measurable growth in key KPIs like CTRs, open rates, and audience size
You’ve developed new workflows, segments, or campaigns based on performance trends
You’re helping guide audience strategy across additional titles in the growing Quartz Media Network
You’ve identified opportunities to streamline tasks using AI- or automation-powered tools
What we would like to see in you

2–4 years of experience in digital media, publishing, or content marketing roles
Hands-on experience growing and managing both social media channels and email newsletters
Familiarity with ESPs (e.g., Delivra, Mailchimp, Campaign Monitor) and CRM workflows
Proficiency with audience insights tools like GA4, Chartbeat, Parse.ly, and platform-native dashboards
Strong editorial instincts and the ability to shape platform-native content strategies
Interest in AI and automation tools relevant to newsletter ops, social scheduling, or audience segmentation
A solutions-oriented approach to testing, reporting, and iterating for growth
Bonus: experience working in a distributed team or supporting multiple brands simultaneously
