What it means to be Yield Manager

We get it, you want to know what you’re signing up for before you apply, right? This is what you need to know. As a Yield Manager at Paved, you will play a critical role in maximizing revenue opportunities for our publishers and advertisers through data analysis, optimization strategies, and the use of advanced ad technology. As an individual contributor working closely with the VP of Operations, you will help identify areas of opportunity for yield improvement, optimize ad inventory, and ensure that our monetization strategies are performing at their best. You will be a key player in the ad tech ecosystem, helping Paved stay ahead of the competition with cutting-edge strategies and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Optimize Yield: Continuously monitor and optimize ad inventory to maximize revenue, ensuring that CPMs (cost per thousand impressions) are optimized without compromising user experience, while balancing the needs of both publishers and advertisers on the ad network.

  • Data Analysis: Analyze ad performance data to identify trends, patterns, and areas of improvement in ad monetization. Generate insights to improve yield and support data-driven decision-making.

  • Multivariate Testing: Design, implement, and analyze multivariate tests to analyze new monetization strategies, targeting algorithms, and ad formats. Use results to refine approaches and improve overall performance.

  • Forecasting & Reporting: Develop and maintain reports on yield performance in Metabase and other business intelligence tools, providing actionable insights to both the Operations and Sales teams. Work closely with other stakeholders to communicate optimization strategies and their impact on revenue.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with the Product and Engineering teams to identify new features or product enhancements that can improve yield optimization strategies.

  • Market Research: Stay current on trends in ad tech, supply-side platforms (SSPs), demand-side platforms (DSPs), and other related technologies to ensure Paved is using the most effective monetization strategies.

  • Client Support: Provide insights and recommendations to the client-facing teams to help them achieve their ad revenue goals. Help ensure that campaigns are running smoothly and are optimized for maximum yield.

  • Inventory Management: Help manage and prioritize available ad inventory across multiple channels and devices to maximize fill rates while maintaining performance quality.

  • Technical Expertise: Use knowledge of ad tech platforms, programmatic advertising, and ad exchanges to manage and optimize the bidding process, ensuring that advertisers are getting the best value for their ads.

  • After 1 week

  • Gain a clear understanding of Paved’s ad tech stack, including our integrations on both the supply and demand sides.

  • Meet with key stakeholders in operations, sales, and engineering to pain points, expectations, and workflow.

  • Access and explore Metabase dashboards and reports to understand what data is being tracked and how performance is measured.

  • Become familiar with the Paved platform.

  • After 1 month

    • Audit and document current yield strategies and identify quick wins for optimization.

    • Deliver a report outlining two or three areas for improvement.

    • Design and launch initial multivariate tests in collaboration with other teams.

    • Identify reporting or visibility gaps in our business intelligence suite or dashboards.

  • After 6 months

    • Implement and document a system for ongoing yield optimization that includes any necessary testing frameworks, rules, and a cross-team SOP.

    • Contribute to product or feature ideas based on your optimization insights.

    • Build a reporting cadence that communicates yield performance clearly to operations and sales for the purpose of decision-making.

    • Become our internal go-to expert for yield performance, regularly consulting for strategy, troubleshooting, and optimization support.

    • Establish benchmarks and develop a roadmap for long-term optimization improvements.

What we would like to see in you

Every Redbricker has three things in common: We’re curious, passionate, and good-humoured. We try our best to balance hard work with good, old-fashioned fun. As a Yield Manager at Paved, there are extra specialties we’re on the lookout for:

  • 3+ years of experience in yield optimization, ad operations, or a related role within the ad technology industry OR 5+ years of experience in a data-focused role (such as Business Intelligence Analyst, Data Analyst, or Revenue Analyst) with strong exposure to digital advertising, monetization strategies, or media analytics.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable strategies.

  • Proficiency in programmatic advertising platforms and technologies.

  • Experience working with business intelligence tools and writing SQL queries to analyze data.
