What it means to be People & Culture Business Partner
Reporting to the Director of People & Culture, the People & Culture Business Partner will be a seasoned and passionate generalist who will act as a business partner for a group of companies within the Redbrick portfolio, working closely with companies in both Canada and the USA. Being a cross-border role, they will have proven knowledge on practices, benefits and legislation in both countries. They will be responsible for full-cycle talent acquisition, employee relations, manager coaching and employee engagement within their portfolio, and will come to the team with proven experience in these areas to hit the ground running. They will have the exciting opportunity to be a part of an innovative and passionate People & Culture team, supporting multiple growing businesses within Redbrick.
We get it, you want to know what you’re signing up for before you apply, right? This is what you need to know. As a People & Culture Business Partner on the Redbrick Shared Services team, you’ll be responsible for:
Talent Acquisition
- Full cycle recruitment for various roles within their portfolio
- Creating all employment offers and contracts
- At times working with 3rd party recruiters on certain hiring needs.
- Updating recruitment guidelines, processes, manuals, hiring plans and any applicable. resources to ensure we are continuing to scale as we grow.
People Processes
- Proactively seeking to adopt and maintain best practices.
- Maintain and update process documents as the company changes and grows.
- Completing various projects assigned to support the department, such as health and wellness initiatives, performance improvement, leadership training etc.
Employee Relations
- Working with managers and employees to address all types of employee relations issues ensuring a balance in representing all parties’ interests.
- Implementing, administering and interpreting company policies, programs and procedures.
- Providing ongoing support to the middle management team on people-related matters, policies and procedures.
Compensation, Payroll & Benefits
- Providing compensation support to managers including salary planning and promotions.
- Creating all amendment agreements to capture employee status changes (compensation, promotions, transfers).
- With an expert understanding of all the employee benefit programs (Canada & USA), guides employees with questions.
- Oversee the leave of absence process.
- Work with the payroll team to ensure employee changes are seamlessly captured.
Talent Development / Manager Coaching
- Working with managers to create and implement innovative solutions for a variety of employee engagement initiatives to improve performance and increase retention.
- Monthly 1:1s with portfolio managers to coach on performance, employee relations and development to ensure our employees have the support to reach their fullest potential.
- Identifying needs for learning and development, and facilitating various training sessions for both employees and managers.
HRIS
- Updating the company HRIS with all employee status changes (compensation, title, reporting manager, vacation changes, terminations).
- Creating custom reports to analyze people metrics and report insights to leadership.
- Participate in HRIS-related projects, including system upgrades, integrations, and new module implementations.
People Metrics & Reporting
- Tracking and reporting of key people metrics to People & Culture leadership.
- Analyze people data and metrics to provide insights and support decision-making.
- Other duties as assigned.
After 1 week
- You have kickstarted the building of internal relationships and trust
- You are starting to develop a clear understanding of our businesses
- You’re familiar with what Redbrick people systems and the technology we use to communicate
- You’ve met several people and are starting to remember names
- You’ve made a list of questions to ask and have started gathering the information you need to do your job well
After 1 month
- You’ve worked with the Director of People and Culture to carve out goals and accomplishments for your first 3, 6 and 12 months
- You are well versed in Redbrick language and all our portfolio companies, with a deep understanding of your specific portfolio.
- You have scheduled regular monthly one-to-ones with middle management people leaders within your specific portfolio to support both leaders and their teams
- You are comfortable navigating all our people systems such as HRIS, ATS, Lattice
- You are taking on and understanding our hiring process
- You have joined company all-hands meetings and presented People & Culture updates within your portfolio
After 6 months
- You have coached middle management leaders with employee relations, engagement, performance and development
- You have used people metrics to make recommendations to People & Culture leadership on how we can better improve and innovate
- You have built and facilitated a virtual training session to employees and/or managers
- You’ve successfully hired and onboarded several team members
- You’re building a robust hiring funnel through nurturing internal and external relationships and building the Redbrick employer brand
What we would like to see in you
Every Redbricker has three things in common: We’re curious, passionate, and good-humored. We try our best to balance hard work with good, old-fashioned fun. As a People & Culture Business Partner at Redbrick, there are extra specialties we’re on the lookout for:
- 6+ years experience in a People & Culture role, with 4+ of those years being in a Generalist role is mandatory
- People & Culture experience in the tech industry supporting multiple businesses is a major asset
- Bachelor's Degree in business, human resources or a related field is mandatory
- Proven experience in a People & Culture role supporting USA employees is mandatory
- Exposure to Canadian federal / provincial and US federal / state-specific employment laws is mandatory
- Specific knowledge in performance development systems and processes/management coaching / employee relations is mandatory
- Understanding of the role and functions of a People and Culture team, and how what we do is continuing to evolve along with changing internal and external factors
- Proven skill in operating and utilizing software such as Google Docs, HRIS, ATS, Lattice, etc.
- Proven experience with assessing all levels of talent and filling technology / creative / operations/management positions
- Proven ability to take initiative and have an innovative approach to solving challenges
- Comfortability navigating complex challenges and operating ‘in the grey’ at times, with proven ability to make sound judgment calls
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks and remain organized to ensure that short timelines are met while having frequent interruptions
- Able to travel, if required
