The Role:

We are seeking a 2D Animator/Motion Designer to join our team on a full-time basis. We’re looking for a creative, passionate storyteller, with an array of creative and technical skills to join us as we expand our animation services. You will be working closely with Sandbox Inc.’s leadership, production, and creative teams. You will feel just as comfortable crafting an illustrative, story-driven piece as you do putting together a package of informational motion graphics. You will apply your expertise to a variety of projects, through research/conceptualization, storyboarding, design, execution, quality control, and collaboration with the rest of our team.

You will:

• Under the guidance of the Design Lead and Sr Producer contribute to the production of animation and mixed media projects, including:
• Developing smart visual concepts to help our clients tell their stories and communicate their impact;
• Producing moodboards, storyboards, and style frames that communicate Sandbox’s vision to our clients and get them excited about the final product;
• Using strong graphic and illustration skills to design and prep final assets;
• Using strong character rigging and animation skills to bring these assets to life!Deliver a high level of quality control on all stages of projects, from research and concept development through to design and execution. Work with Project Leads to interpret client and partner objectives to support the creative process for animation projects.
• Collaborate with team members and freelancers including illustrators, graphic designers, and editors.
• Assess client feedback and propose solutions that meet Sandbox’s and our clients’ objectives and best interests.

What you bring to the table:

• Degree or diploma in animation, motion design, graphic design, or equivalent professional experience
• 4+ years experience in animation and design
• Advanced knowledge of Adobe After Effects and other Adobe Creative Cloud software, including using the programs in conjunction
• Strong illustration and/or graphic design skills
• Strong collaboration skills and ability to effectively action creative direction and feedback
• Understanding of various 2D animation approaches (from character animation to informational motion graphics)
• Strong character rigging skills
• A keen sense of timing and pacing
• An organized approach to project file management
• The ability to work independently on projects from start to finish

Bonus if you…

• Experience with 3D animation software and techniques
• Experience with both video and audio editing
• Experience overseeing small teams of animators and illustrators
• Bilingual or some French

The offices of Sandbox Inc. are located in downtown Toronto, just south of Trinity Bellwoods park. Currently, our team operates on a hybrid model: we work mostly remotely and have meetings in the office periodically.
