About the role
As a Data Engineer Co-op Student, you’ll work closely with our Engineering and Data teams to help build, maintain, and improve the data foundations that support decision-making across RVezy. This role is ideal for a student who enjoys working with data from end to end, including ingestion, transformation, analysis, and ensuring data reliability, and who is excited to tackle real-world data challenges in a growing marketplace business.
You’ll gain hands-on experience working with production data systems, collaborating with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders, and contributing to data initiatives that have a direct impact on how the company operates and grows.
Key responsibilities
- Data Pipeline Development: Assist in building, maintaining, and improving data pipelines that ingest, transform, and load data from various internal and external sources.
- Data Quality & Reliability: Help monitor data quality, investigate data issues, and support improvements to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability across datasets.
- Analytics Enablement: Support the creation and maintenance of datasets, tables, or views used for reporting, dashboards, and analysis by business teams.
- Collaboration Across Teams: Work closely with Data Engineers, Software Engineers, and stakeholders to understand data needs and translate them into scalable solutions.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to documentation of data flows, models, and processes to help improve team knowledge and onboarding.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimize data workflows, performance, or tooling, and contribute ideas to improve how data is used across the organization.
- Learning & Growth: Actively learn new tools, technologies, and best practices related to data engineering and analytics in a production environment.
Qualifications
Competencies, skills, and attributes:
- Co-op Enrollment: You must be enrolled in a university or college co-op program to be eligible for this opportunity.
- Availability: You must be available for a full-time co-op term from May 4, 2026 – August 28, 2026.
- Foundational Technical Skills: Experience with or coursework in areas such as data structures, databases, data processing, or software development.
- Programming Experience: Comfortable writing code in at least one programming language commonly used for data work (e.g., Python, SQL, or similar).
- Analytical Mindset: Curious, detail-oriented, and interested in understanding how data flows through systems and supports business decisions.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to break down problems, ask good questions, and work through ambiguous data challenges.
- Collaboration & Communication: Comfortable working in a team environment and explaining technical concepts at a high level.
- Curiosity & Willingness to Learn: Motivated to learn new tools, technologies, and best practices, and open to feedback and mentorship.
Bonus points if you:
- Have experience with SQL, data modeling, or data visualization tools.
- Have worked with cloud platforms, APIs, or ETL/ELT workflows.
- Have completed personal, academic, or open-source projects involving data.
- Are interested in how data supports product, operations, or business strategy.
- Have experience or interest in working at a startup or scale-up environment.
Location
The role will require you to work from our office in Centretown 5 days per week.
