Job Overview:

The SMT (Surface Mount Technology) Machine Operator is responsible for the operation and maintenance of surface-mount technology machinery used in the assembly of electronic components on printed circuit boards (PCBs). This role requires expertise in machine operation, quality control, and troubleshooting to ensure efficient production and high-quality output.

What The Job Is All About:

  • Operate and monitor SMT machinery, including pick-and-place machines, solder paste printers, SPI machines, reflow ovens and AOIs according to production schedules.
  • Work closely with fellow team members to ensure production flow during rolling changeovers and to validate components that are accurate during changeover.
  • Manipulate routine machine settings as needed, to ensure proper component placement and soldering.
  • Build PCBs and setup equipment according to work instructions with regards to specified paste, glue, oven profiles and proper tooling and jigs.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure adherence to quality standards and production goals.
  • Inspect PCBs for defects with the assistance of the AOI, such as soldering issues, component misalignment, polarity, or placement errors. This also includes manual inspection using microscopes and hand-held cameras.
  • Use measurement tools and testing equipment to verify that assembled products meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of SMT equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Identify and resolve minor issues with SMT machinery and processes, including diagnosing and correcting minor errors.
  • Maintain accurate transactions for routing serial numbers, collecting defects and using the out-of-route process for repairing defects.

Who You Are:

High School Diploma

Previous experience with machine operation considered an asset

Mechanical aptitude

Able to work independently or as part of a team

Capable of following procedures and work logically

Detail oriented

Conscientious and willing to ask questions

Strong aptitude for learning

Must be able to perform light lifting and bending

Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time

Follow Procedures, policies, ESD and Health & Safety standards

Salary Information:

The pay range for this role in Canada is: $46,250 - $51,000 CAD

The listed salary reflects the pay range for a role based in Canada. Compensation may differ based on alternate locations if listed. Final compensation will be determined by location, skills, experience, knowledge, and role-specific qualifications, and may be adjusted to recognize candidates accordingly.
