The Senior Global Customs Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring full customs compliance across all international shipping activities. This position is responsible for managing and optimizing customs clearance processes, maintaining adherence to country-specific import and export requirements, and mitigating compliance risks. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in global customs laws, classification, valuation, documentation, and procedures, ensuring shipments are processed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with all applicable customs regulations.

What the job is all about:
Customs Compliance Management:
- Ensure compliance with local, national, and international customs regulations.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of import and export documentation for customs clearance.
- Advise on appropriate customs classifications, valuations, and duty rates.
- Monitor and manage global compliance processes to ensure timely and cost-effective imports and exports.
- Support Free Trade Agreement (FTA) management.
Regulatory Knowledge & Risk Management:
- Stay up to date on global customs regulations, laws, and best practices.
- Identify potential compliance risks and develop strategies to mitigate those risks.
- Liaise with external legal counsel, customs brokers, and regulatory bodies as needed.
Process Improvement:
- Continuously assess and improve global trade and customs compliance processes.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure that trade compliance is integrated into business processes.
Customs Audit & Reporting:
- Manage audits and provide necessary documentation to regulatory authorities.
- Prepare and present regular reports on customs compliance performance to manager.
- Handle customs-related inquiries and ensure accurate recordkeeping.
Training & Support:
- Provide training to internal teams on customs compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) on global customs compliance issues.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with supply chain, logistics, legal, and finance teams to ensure global trade processes run smoothly.
Who you are:
- Bachelor’s degree in international business, Logistics, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 8+ years of experience in global customs compliance, or international trade.
- Strong knowledge of global customs regulations and customs compliance requirements.
- Experience working with customs brokers and regulatory authorities.
- In-depth understanding of import/export documentation and customs clearance procedures.
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex customs regulations and tariff schedules.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
Bonus points if you have the following:
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or other relevant certifications.
- Knowledge of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and trade preference programs.
