The successful candidate will collaborate with the Ross Graphics development teams to enable and deliver product testing strategies. Testing will focus on the Ross Virtual Solution (RVS) product portfolio which offers a range of virtual solutions through the use of augmented reality and virtual sets, with a focus on blended environments that combine the best of traditional physical design and virtual design. Expertise will be gained through direct testing of the products in the lab, working closely with technical personnel, and contributing to automation environments. The candidate will be a champion of product quality, working with the development team to improve test coverage and test efficiency. The candidate will report directly to the Product Verification Manager (Graphics).

This position is located at our Ottawa Research & Development facility. The successful candidate will be expected to work in the lab facilities when required, possibly on short notice.

What the job is all about:

  • Participate in analysis and design walkthroughs.
  • Investigate new functionality and incorporate into comprehensive test plans.
  • Develop test strategies that outline test methods, lab setups, and highlight any equipment deficiencies that can be used to generate lab requirements.
  • Provide effort estimation for scheduling purposes to management.
  • Modify existing test plans and testing information to correct errors, adapt to new use case scenarios or upgraded interfaces, and cover performance enhancements.
  • Manage testcases and test cycles in the test management database (Zephyr Scale).
  • Design, configure, and document lab test setup for reuse.
  • Accountable for the quality of work delivered for the specific project.
  • Effective test case execution (manual and/or automated) against software and hardware with real time status updates of the results using the test management database (Zephyr Scale).
  • Experience operating in a lab environment handling hardware.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot test case failures resulting in an action plan.
  • Provide accurate and detailed bug reporting throughout the testing process (JIRA).
  • Assist in investigation and reproduction of product and customer issues.
  • Participate in creation of automated testcases and help maintain these testcases throughout the product development cycle.
  • Participate, when required, with the multi-functional team in bug triages.
  • Provide regular status report updates to the management team.
  • Act as an occasional trainer for other employees.
  • Act as subject matter expert for RVS workflow.
  • Assist the customer support team with customer quality issues.
  • Participate in postmortems reviews, what worked, what didn’t, and what we can do better.
  • Participate in the management, maintenance, and expansion of the lab environment, including investigating third party software/hardware integration (racking servers, cabling, installing and configuring graphics cards etc.).
  • Collaborate with other technical and non-technical teams as needed.

Who you are:

  • Education in Computer Science, Computer/Software Engineering, or Broadcast Technology is required.
  • Knowledge of operating systems (Linux and various Windows platforms) is required.
  • 3+ years experience in designing and implementing test strategies such as functional testing, performance testing, stress testing and system testing is required.
  • Proficiency with PV methodologies, software testing principles, concepts, verification, validation methods, test & risk management is required.
  • Strong experience with integrated testing of multi-server configurations required.
  • Experience with bug tracking and test cycle management tools (Jira, Bugzilla, etc.) is required.
  • Knowledge of computer networking (TCP/IP, HTTP, etc.) is required.
  • A strong attention for detail and a critical mindset is required.
  • Experience with development or testing using Unreal or other 3D graphics engines is desired.
  • Experience with bug tracking and test cycle management tools (Jira, Bugzilla, etc.) is desired.
  • Strong experience programming (C, C++, JAVA/JSCRIPT, Python, Visual Basic, scripting, etc.) is an asset.
  • Experience with testing AWS web services and/or cloud-based architectures is an asset.
  • Test case automation skills are an asset.
  • Strong experience with testing data networks would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with automation tools (Robot Framework, SoapUI, JMeter, Postman, Jenkins, etc.) would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of databases & SQL. (PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora, etc.) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of broadcast and television production would be considered an asset.
  • A strong attention for detail and a critical mindset.
  • Strong interpersonal and observational skills.

  • Strong analytical and trouble shooting skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Self-starter, quick learner and able to work with minimum supervision.
