Ross has the world's largest portfolio of live media production equipment and applications. All of these products are created in house by our incredibly talented internal R&D teams. Our product portfolio is incredibly wide in scope and uses a huge variety of technologies and skills, these include: industrial design, electromechanical, circuit boards, FPGA, embedded software, SaaS applications, Robotics, AI/ML, and SecDevOps to name a few. The R&D teams do 12-15 releases every single month. 

We are looking for a Vice President, Product Development to join our Product Development organization. Reporting directly to the CTO, this key role has strategic responsibility for the Product Development processes and outcomes of Ross’s global R&D team. Working in collaboration with leaders across the organization, this role will ensure we continue to innovate and deliver cool and practical solutions to our global customers efficiently. This role has the R&D Operations team reporting directly to them to achieve the organizations goals.

Who you report to: CTO & Senior Vice President, Product Development 

What the job is all about:

  • Measure and drive improvements to the performance of R&D product teams 
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement with a focus on solving business problems including cost optimization, scalability, manufacturability, and maintainability of products 
  • Identify and highlight any underperforming teams and work with management on turnaround plans 
  • Ensure department-wide and cross-department processes are well documented and compliance is audited where appropriate 
  • Ensure cross-product and cross-department programs are effectively managed and deliver exceptional corporate value 

As VP Product Development, you will be responsible for:    

  • Working with Ross Video’s R&D teams to efficiently develop and deliver exceptional solutions and products both on time and in budget  
  • Researching, reporting on, and implementing best practices for development processes and KPIs to create efficiencies within and across product teams 
  • Leading transformative change across hundreds of staff and dozens of product lines through indirect influence and inspiration 
  • Creating a culture of continuous learning and the practical use of technology to solve business problems with manufacturability and maintainability of products kept top of mind 
  • Bridging corporate strategy to R&D departmental initiatives 
  • Acting as a partner to business unit leaders across the global Ross business 
  • Work and collaborate closely with the Director of Product Management Operations 
  • Ensuring that product teams across the organization share technology as efficiently as possible, maximizing reuse and consistency where it makes sense 
  • Overseeing department-wide R&D programs, including planning and reporting 
  • Managing R&D budget: long and short-term planning, forecasting, monitoring, and reporting 
  • Effectively managing headcount planning and strategic staffing plans, working closely with senior leaders within R&D and Product Management 
  • Driving strategy and excellence in execution of central R&D functions, such as Product Compliance, Change Management, Component Engineering, Process Engineering, Central R&D Tools, and Product Security 
  • Managing and encouraging the creation of trade secrets and patents 
  • Other duties as required 


Who you are:

  • Exception interpersonal skills and strong ability to lead through both direct reporting relationships and indirect influence 
  • Proven track record of overseeing a Global R&D organization and working with multiple stakeholders across broad programs and lines of business 
  • Strong understanding of different R&D methodologies such as Agile and Waterfall as well as a keen interest in keeping up to date on the latest research in the field 
  • Expert familiarity and proven success with product lifecycles, release planning, project schedules, and budgeting across various development methodologies and variation in product lifecycles across teams 
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) in hardware, software, and SaaS  
  • Exceptional technical background and aptitude to quickly learn Ross Video’s broad and diverse product portfolio 
  • Experience working in the Media Technology, or a related industry 
  • Technical expertise in networking, video, AI/ML, and cybersecurity 
  • Passionate about video production with a strong understanding of broadcast technology and workflows
