Rise to the challenge

Rise is Canada's complete people management & payroll solution that gives employers everything they need to build loyal and productive teams, all in one place. We collaborate and co-create to build solutions that completely change how companies of all shapes and sizes manage their payroll, scheduling, time tracking, group benefits, recruitment, onboarding, and more.

At Rise, we're changing how work happens and how people work. We'd love for you to join us and experience the most positive, challenging, and transformative part of your career.

About the role

Do you like taking a tangled payroll problem and driving it all the way to done?

As a Payroll Support Specialist, you're the go-to expert for our clients and our internal teams on the most complex payroll and tax scenarios. Remittances, reversals, stop payments, year-end filings across provinces. People come to you when money is on the line and a deadline is approaching, so the bar is high: reply fast, diagnose accurately, and land a fix that holds.

The specialists who do well here own the outcome. They dig into a problem before handing it to engineering. They keep a ticket clean enough that a teammate could pick it up cold. And when something's finished, they close it out instead of letting it sit.

You're also the voice of the client inside Rise. With your payroll depth and your eye for detail, you'll spot the patterns behind the repeat questions and turn them into something better for everyone: a clearer help article, a fixed process, an automation you build yourself. We want your ideas, and we'll help you ship them.

You have high integrity and good judgment. You do your best work under pressure and tight timelines. If you know Canadian payroll deeply, you move fast, and you're keen on what AI can take off your plate, we'd like to talk.

The day-to-day

  • Own complex payroll and tax issues over email, live chat, and phone, from the first reply through resolution, closure, and the check that makes sure the fix actually held.

  • Guide clients through the tricky parts of the product and through payroll best practices, including virtual "in-person" sessions when a screen share will get there faster.

  • Mentor teammates through complex payroll scenarios, and add what you learn to the knowledge base so the answer outlives the ticket.

  • Use AI to draft, research, and build the checks that keep you on top of your queue. Then share what works.

  • Be a hands-on, willing, and active participant in the team's overall learning and improvement, and commit to providing the best client experience.

  • Tell Product and Engineering what you're seeing so recurring issues get fixed at the source, and take on client projects with hard deadlines when they come up.

About you

  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Professional) certification from the National Payroll Institute is required.

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills in both French and English.

  • 2+ years in professional payroll, support, or a role working directly with clients, with real depth in Canadian payroll and tax rules.

  • You’re eager to own and solve clients’ issues. When something is stuck, your first instinct is to own it and find a resolution.

  • You’re proactive in flagging risks and potential issues early; you're reachable during your work hours, and when a commitment is going to slip, people hear it from you first.

  • Receptive to coaching in a way that shows up and reflects in your work. Feedback changes what you do within days, and that goes for client feedback too.

  • Good judgment under pressure and the integrity to give a client an answer they won't like, along with the reasoning behind it.

  • Real, positive, caring energy for the work we do. Clients can hear the difference.

  • Keen on AI. You're already using it, or you're impatient to start.

  • Willing to roll up your sleeves and help wherever, whenever, and with whatever is needed.
